🌸 Things to Do When on Your Period

Periods are not just a physical cycle. They are a reminder of the incredible resilience and rhythm of the body. While they can sometimes bring discomfort, they also offer a chance to slow down, nurture yourself, and reconnect with your inner strength. Think of this time as a gentle pause, where you can lean into self-care, embrace comfort, and honor your body’s natural flow. Whether through soothing rituals, nourishing foods, or creative outlets, there are countless ways to transform your period days into moments of empowerment and renewal.

🌸 Self-Care Activities
- Warm baths or showers: Relax muscles and reduce cramps.
- Use a heating pad: Place it on your lower abdomen or back for pain relief.
- Pamper yourself: Soft pajamas, cozy blankets, or skincare routines can boost comfort.
- Creative hobbies: Journaling, painting, or poetry can help channel emotions.
- Mindful rest: Movie nights, meditation, or listening to calming music.

🥗 Nutrition & Hydration
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to reduce bloating.
- Eat iron-rich foods: Spinach, beans, or lean meats help replenish lost iron.
- Choose anti-inflammatory foods: Ginger tea, turmeric, and leafy greens can ease cramps.
- Avoid excess caffeine, alcohol, and salty/sugary foods: These may worsen bloating or mood swings.

🏃 Gentle Movement
- Light exercise: Walking, yoga, or stretching can improve circulation and reduce cramps.
- Avoid heavy lifting or intense workouts: These can strain your body during menstruation.

💡 Emotional & Mental Care
- Practice mindfulness: Breathing exercises or meditation to ease stress.
- Connect socially: Chat with friends or engage in supportive communities.
- Romanticize your period: Treat it as a time to slow down and honor your body.

⚠️ Things to Avoid
- Tight clothing: Can increase discomfort.
- Being inactive all day: Gentle movement helps circulation.
- Overindulging in junk food: May worsen cramps and fatigue.

What if councils in their budget for 2026 also prioritized period-friendly public toilet facilities?

16 Days of Activism is commemorated yearly from the 25th November to the 10th December.
Violence has no place in our homes, schools, workplaces, or communities. During these 16 days, we Orange the world, we stand together to listen, believe, and act for survivors of gender‑based violence. Speak up when you see harm, support local services, and teach the next generation that respect and consent are non‑negotiable.

If you or someone you know needs help, reach out to trusted friends, local organizations, or helplines. No one should suffer in silence. Share this post to raise awareness, wear orange to show solidarity, and use your voice to demand safety and justice for women and girls everywhere.

Some days ago, we were invited to give a talk in a workshop on *Women’s Hygiene* hosted by SC GLOW at the Women Empowerment Center hall.
