Founded in 2003 and registered in 2010 the Centre for Indigenous Resources Management and Development (CIRMAD) is a not-for-profit and apolitical group interested and involved in natural resource management and development, and civil society work. Its activities are governed by Cameroonian Law No. 90/053 of 19/12/90 as amended/supplemented by Law No. 99/0011 of 20/07/99. It is based in Bamenda, ca

Before registration in 2010
2003 –2004:
Resource person for 2 refresher training courses for ecoguards of Korup National Park
Resource person for basic training of tourist guides of the Korup Rainforest Ecotourism Organisation (KREO) on Wildlife Identification and Interpretation.
2008:
Developed 2 specific game ranger training modules: Ambush as an Anti-poaching Techniques, and Intelligence Gathering and Management for Anti-poaching. Trained 206 park rangers of the Cross River National Park, Nigeria, on park security operations for 6 weeks in staggered order, under a WCS-Nigeria consultancy. Liaised with WCS-TMLP as MINFOF representative on community education and the creation of 8 Village Forest Management Committees for the Kagwene Gorilla Sanctuary.
2010: Trained 14 ecoguards of Mbe Mountains Conservation Area and Afi Mountains Wildlife Sanctuary, Nigeria, under a WCS-Nigeria consultancy. After registration from 2010
Under the Sustainable Medicinal Wildlife Initiative as a a programme of CIRMAD, we initiated and carried out field surveys on the use and means of acquisition of medicinal wildlife products for natural medicine in Cameroon’s North West Region in 2010. Produced a historic poster of identified medicinal wildlife species of Northwest Cameroon and organized the historic symposium on the sustainable use of medicinal wildlife in 2010; organised the first ever training of tradi-practitioners on sustainable medicinal wildlife use in 2012. Initiated and produced the 1st ever anti-poaching action movie: MEDICINAL WILDLIFE PALAVER, for medicinal wildlife conservation education in 2010; as at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl1Z0SQYKzQ. Besides the ground breaking surveys, the Initiative educated and trained user communities, and mobilised stakeholders for the protection and sustainable use of vulnerable medicinal wildlife resources in Northwest Cameroon. As partner NGO to BAPESU in the Kagwene Gorilla Sanctuary Beekeeping and Conservation Pilot Project (2012); CIRMAD trained beneficiaries on small business and marketing Skills. Our current projects:
Produced 1st ever conservation education poster of the endangered Pan troglodytes ellioti in 2014 for the ongoing Conservation Education project on the Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee in the North West Region of Cameroon. The multi-site project has been successively supported with funding by the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium's PPG Conservation Fund, Sacramento Zoo, International Primatologists Society, and currently by the Chester Zoo for work around Kom-Wum Forest Reserve.
