African Proverb: Like the turtle, every man must stick out his neck if he wants to move forward
Meaning: Turtles cannot move forward without sticking out their neck. Andre Gide, who won the Nobel in literature in the year 1947 made a statement which resonates with this proverb. He said, "man cannot find new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore". You see, you cannot become a man so long as you think like a boy. You cannot be what you want to be if you hold on to what you are. Life is full of chapters and we must know when to close a certain chapter. This is a message particularly to those who are afraid to take risks. Some people think that it is safer not to take risks in life. But what they do not know is that not taking risks is even riskier than taking risk. Science teaches that when the body muscles are not put into action they 'atrophy'. That is, they waste away gradually. In the same way when we remain in one position more than is necessary, we "waste" our lives. Even if we hold a certain position for a long time,we must progress in experience. Be moving! !
