Today ENYSEM held a capacity building workshop on cake baking and ice cream production at Hot Spot Bamenda with adolescent and young girls to equip them with practical baking skills.

During the session, participants learned the basics of cake baking, including measuring ingredients, mixing, baking techniques, and basic ice cream mixtures. The workshop provided a hands-on learning environment that allowed the girls to actively participate and build confidence in their abilities.

Beyond the practical skills gained, the activity also aimed to encourage creativity, self-reliance, and economic empowerment among the girls by introducing baking as a potential income-generating skill. The session ended with excitement and appreciation from participants for the opportunity to learn and grow.

6) THE RIGHT TO MARRIAGE CHOICES

Women’s rights to marriage are fundamental human rights that ensure women have the freedom to choose if, when, and whom to marry. Marriage should be built on consent, respect, and equality, not pressure, force, or tradition that denies women their voice. Every woman has the right to enter marriage willingly, to be treated with dignity within the union, and to make decisions that affect her life and family.

Protecting women’s rights in marriage also means standing against practices such as forced marriage, child marriage, and any form of abuse within the home. When women are empowered to make free and informed choices about marriage, they are better able to build healthy families, pursue their goals, and contribute positively to their communities.

‎Today we held a Safe Space Discussion with Single Mothers, creating an environment where women could openly share their experiences, challenges, and hopes without fear of judgment. It was a powerful moment of connection, learning, and mutual support.

‎During the discussion, participants reflected on some of the barriers they face in accessing their rights as women including economic challenges, social stigma, limited support systems, and the struggle to balance caregiving with personal growth. Despite these challenges, the resilience and strength displayed by the mothers were truly inspiring.

‎The session also created an opportunity to explore practical ways of supporting single mothers, strengthening their voices, and promoting their rights within our communities while developing referral pathways for cases which needed further follow up and counseling.

‎Creating spaces like this reminds us that every woman deserves dignity, support, and the opportunity to thrive. Together, we continue to listen, learn, and advocate for a more inclusive and supportive society.

5) The right to safety
Women have the right to live in safety and dignity, free from all forms of violence, abuse, and discrimination. The right to safety means that every woman and girl should feel protected in her home, workplace, school, and community. No woman should have to live in fear of physical, emotional, or sexual harm.

However, many women continue to face threats to their safety, including domestic violence, harassment, harmful cultural practices, and insecurity in public spaces. Protecting women’s right to safety requires strong laws, supportive communities, and collective action to challenge harmful norms and behaviors.

When women are safe, they are better able to pursue education, work, leadership, and contribute meaningfully to society. Ensuring safety for women is not just a women’s issue, it is a responsibility for everyone.

4)WOMEN'S RIGHTS TO WORK AND INCOME

Women have the fundamental right to work in safe, dignified, and fair conditions, and to earn an income that allows them to live independently and support their families. This right includes equal access to employment opportunities, equal pay for work of equal value, and freedom from discrimination, harassment, or exploitation in the workplace. When women are denied fair work or income, inequality is reinforced and entire communities are held back.

Protecting women’s rights to work and income means removing barriers such as unequal laws, unpaid care burdens, limited access to education and skills, and exclusion from economic resources. Ensuring these rights empowers women to make choices about their lives, strengthens households, and contributes to inclusive economic growth. When women can work and earn fairly, societies become more just, resilient, and prosperous.

3) THE RIGHT TO HEALTHCARE ACCESS
‎Health is a fundamental woman’s right, not a privilege. Every woman and girl has the right to access quality, affordable, and respectful healthcare throughout her life—covering physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. This includes the right to accurate information, safe medical services, and the freedom to make decisions about her own body without discrimination, violence, or coercion.

‎When women’s health rights are protected, families thrive, communities grow stronger, and societies become more equitable. According to the World Health Organization, ensuring women’s access to healthcare is essential for achieving gender equality and sustainable development. Protecting women’s right to health is therefore not only a matter of justice, but a foundation for social and economic progress.

2) The rights to education
Women’s right to education is a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of equality, empowerment, and sustainable development. When girls and women have equal access to quality education, they gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their lives, participate fully in society, and claim their rights. Education helps break cycles of poverty, reduces gender-based violence and harmful practices, and strengthens women’s leadership in families, communities, and governance. Upholding women’s right to education is not only a matter of justice—it is essential for building inclusive, resilient, and equitable societies where no one is left behind.
