IEEE MTT-s & AP-s Student Branch Chapter at Universidade de Aveiro

In November 2025, our Student Branch organised two RF and microwave events at the University of Aveiro. On 14 November, we hosted the session “From System Design to Lab: Modern RF and Microwave Measurement Techniques”, with a talk by our researcher Ricardo Figueiredo on non-linearity in modern RF systems. The session continued with Keysight Fellow Joel Dunsmore, an IEEE Distinguished Microwave Lecturer (DML), who presented advanced techniques for characterising microwave components in the lab.
On 27 November, we held an online seminar with DML Mohammad H. Zarifi on “Microwave/RF Devices and their Interactions with Novel Nano-Materials for Sensing and Communication Applications”, showing how RF structures can be combined with new materials for compact and sensitive sensors.
We thank all the speakers for their contributions and are very happy with the engagement and participation in these activities. This month’s event closed our 2025 calendar, and we look forward to seeing you again at our technical events in 2026.

We are pleased to announce a special virtual talk by Professor Mohammad H. Zarifi, Director of the Okanagan MicroElectronics and Gigahertz Applications (OMEGA) Lab in Canada.
Professor Zarifi is known for his work in microwave circuits and sensing technologies. In this session, he will talk about how microwave and RF devices interact with advanced nanomaterials, and how these materials enable new sensing and communication applications.
This session is open to everyone and is a great opportunity for students and researchers interested in microwave engineering, sensing technologies, and the role of advanced nanomaterials in next-generation applications.

We had an amazing morning at this year’s Easter event with the IEEE MTTs & APs Student Branch Chapter! 🐣🎾🍕

As a Student Branch Chapter affiliated with the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society and the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, we’re proud to bring students and researchers together through both science and fun.
A huge thank you to Instituto de Telecomunicações - Aveiro for kindly providing the space, which allowed us to host a great gathering of over 15 students and researchers.

The day started off strong with some energizing paddle matches, guided by none other than our best coach, Coutinho! 💪🏽 His tips and encouragement made the games even more fun and engaging for everyone.

After working up a sweat, we recharged with some delicious pizza lunch, kindly sponsored by Pizzà Jaime .🍕❤ A huge thank you for the support and the tasty slices!

End of Year MTTs & APs SBC Aveiro Event

We had an amazing end of school event with the IEEE MTTs & APs Student Branch Chapter on the 25th of July! 🎉 A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the celebration!

We kicked off the event with an exciting football match where everyone showed off their skills and team spirit! ⚽ The friendly competition was intense and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces on the pitch.

After working up an appetite, we enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch together. 🍕
