Ten years ago today, medical assistance in dying (MAID) became legal in Canada. This achievement took decades of tireless work by patients, families, clinicians, and advocates.
To mark this important milestone, Dying With Dignity Canada is launching a new, web-based education platform focused on end-of-life decision making, including MAID: WeCanChoose.ca
This platform is a resource informed by Canada's legal and health care frameworks. It addresses misinformation by grounding the conversation in evidence and lived experience and brings together insights from people across Canada who share what they learned, what they experienced, and what they wish others knew.

End-of-life decisions are among the most personal — and the most complex — we face in our lifetimes.

Yet many people navigate these decisions without access to reliable information.

WeCanChoose.ca is a new public education website created by Dying With Dignity Canada. It’s designed to change that.

Whether you're thinking about your own end of life, supporting someone you love, or simply want to understand your options, the site offers plain-language information, practical tools, and real stories from real people who've been there.

It covers the full spectrum of end-of-life planning — including medical assistance in dying (MAID) — as one of the options available in Canada.

You are not alone in a sea of information.

Tynwald, the Isle of Man’s parliament, voted in favour of further amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill, requested by the UK Government. The Bill has been sent for Royal Assent for a second time.
This happens on the back of Lauren Edwards MP bringing back the Westminster Assisted Dying Bill.

The Isle of Man’s Assisted Dying Bill has been sent for Royal Assent for a second time. Humanists UK is calling on the UK Government to swiftly grant Royal Assent and avoid a constitutional crisis. Yesterday, Tynwald, the Isle of Man’s parliament, voted in favour of further amendments to the Ass...

As Lauren Edwards MP has announced that she will bring back the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, here is a guide to what the Bill is, what happened to it in the House of Lords, and how the Parliament Act works:

As Lauren Edwards MP has announced that she will bring back the Assisted Dying Bill, an enormous amount of misinformation is present on what the Bill is, what happened to it in the House of Lords, and how the Parliament Act works. Nathan Stilwell, our lead on assisted dying, has produced this guide....

The public thought the Assisted Dying Bill had passed. Dying people thought change was finally coming.

Earlier this week in a Westminster Hall debate, Kit Malthouse MP spoke about the moment the Assisted Dying Bill was blocked.

After elected MPs voted to support the Bill, many people understandably thought change was finally coming. Instead, the Bill went to the Lords, where more than 1,200 amendments were tabled by a handful of peers and time ran out.

For campaigners like Nathanial Dye and Sophie Blake, this was never just parliamentary process. It is time.

During the debate, MPs from across parties have now said clearly that amendments must not be used to block a Bill that has the backing of the Commons and the public.

Parliament must act. The Assisted Dying Bill must come back.
