In ARIS, we combine inspiration for space exploration, hands-on project work and personal development. Initiated and lead by students from ETH Zürich, HSLU and ZHAW we build sounding rockets to win the Spaceport America Cup in the highest category by 2024. Together with our partners from industry and academia, we aggregate the required knowledge. And on the way there, we educate future engineers a

nd leaders in hands-on project work. Our ultimate goal: to fly a student demonstrator in Low Earth Orbit by 2029!

First ARIStronaut in Space!

ARIS alumna is heading to space — and we couldn’t be prouder. From ARIS to orbit — Rabea, you’re truly living our motto: Space to Grow.

Rabea started her space journey with us at ARIS, leading our satellite team SAGE, during her studies at ETH Zurich. Her time at ARIS sparked her passion for space and taught her what can be possible when a group of dedicated people work toward a shared goal.

On March 31, 2025, Rabea will launch as pilot and science officer on the Fram2 mission — the first crewed spaceflight to orbit both of Earth’s poles.
Rabea’s story is a reminder of what’s possible when passion meets purpose. ARIS is cheering her on — all the way to space.

🚀 Exciting news! A small ARIS delegation, including VP Victor Elliesen, Head of Legal Moritz Kuntze, SAGE Project Manager Fiona Konnerth, and Legal Advisor Niwes Willner, recently joined a discussion at the Swiss Bundeshaus on the Federal Council’s proposed “Raumfahrtsgesetz.” This law will shape the future of space activities, including our role as a satellite operator.

Being part of this early conversation allows us to offer our insights and stay at the forefront of space innovation. At ARIS, we believe every student can make a meaningful impact. We are proud to contribute to Switzerland’s space sector! 🌌✨

🔥 3...2...1… IGNITION! 🔥
After 15 months of dedication, problem-solving, and teamwork, project NICOLLIER has taken to the skies!
On Saturday, we launched our beautiful rocket to an altitude of 1000m over the stunning landscapes of Elm, Switzerland ⛰️
After a flawless ascent the Nosecone separation was slightly delayed, which led to an uncontrolled drogue and parachute deployment. Tangled lines hindered our goal of guided recovery, but the parachute was able to ensure a very soft landing. 🪂
Thanks to the NIC team for the countless hours of blood, sweat and tears to craft this fabulous piece of engineering. Thanks to the 100+ visitors who joined us in Elm to watch the launch. Thanks to the event management team for providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience. And thanks to the many many ARIS sponsors for making this incredible journey possible 😍

Last week SAGE had to opportunity to visit the german space operations center (gsoc) at the german aerospace center (DLR). 🛰️

The day was filled with learnings about how operations at the center are done, a highlight being getting insight into the operations of the ISS Columbus Module, and meetings with various experts giving us invaluable feedback. Thank you to the team at the DLR GSOC!

We’re proud to introduce HERMES, the latest and most ambitious project from ARIS, representing a leap forward in Swiss student rocketry. 🚀

Named after the Greek god known for speed and intellect, HERMES aims to become the first Swiss student-designed rocket powered by a bi-liquid propulsion system to reach a 3km altitude at EuRoC 2025.

This project unites over 55 talented students from , , .ch, .ost, and , blending expertise across engineering and scientific disciplines. HERMES showcases cutting-edge technology, sustainable solutions, and innovation at every level. ⚙️💡

At its heart lies the EthaLOx engine, developed in collaboration with the HEPHAESTUS Focus Project. This powerful engine fuels HERMES, representing the teamwork and technical excellence driving ARIS. HERMES also features a signature guided recovery unit, developed with the knowledge from projects like the recently launched NICOLLIER, as well as BERNOUILLI and PERIPHAS.

Supporting these efforts is our Engine Test Bench (ETB) and Remote Filling Station (RFS), ensuring rigorous testing and safe propellant handling throughout the project lifecycle. 🛠️🔥

Today, we are thrilled to unveil the new HERMES logo, a symbol of our passion, ingenuity, and collaborative spirit. As we journey closer to EuRoC 2025, follow us as we push the boundaries of student-led aerospace innovation. ✨
