At "𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱: 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀", experts explored what must be addressed as states move towards negotiations on autonomous weapons.

From the risks posed by anti-personnel autonomous weapons to the impacts of and technologies on , dignity and children, the discussion made one thing clear:

The UN Working Group on discrimination against women and girls recently released a report on the impact of AI & digital tech on the rights of women and girls to the UN Human Rights Council 🇺🇳

📣 "The Working Group joins the call for a ban on the use of lethal autonomous weapons systems and further addresses how AI-enabled military systems must be regulated in accordance with binding international standards ensuring meaningful human control, civilian protection, and gender-responsive oversight."

The report calls for feminist and human rights-based approaches to the design and deployment of AI.

AI military systems are only as reliable as the data they are built on. If that data is biased, unlawfully collected, or derived from human rights violations, the consequences for civilians can be catastrophic.

At the informal exchanges on AI in the military domain at 🇺🇳 UN Geneva, Stop Killer Robots campaigners urged the international community to put the risks of harm to people, our dignity and autonomy, and our environment at the forefront of both their discussions on military AI and broader efforts to address the dangers posed by the rise of AI and autonomy in the use of force.

⚠️ The stakes could not be higher. Machines cannot and should not be trusted with life-and-de*th decisions.
