From fire to an island of light at Homo Faber 2026

Watch Sebastiano Fischer work with fire to shape his robust organic forms on the volcanic island of Pantelleria – and the landscape itself is part of his practice. Just as the blue sea surrounds his island home, the finished piece will be found within Es Devlin’s installation, A Full Moon Rising, reflected in the shimmering water of its pool.

Sculpting wood with a sense of wonder in the USA's Pacific Northwest

Bringing his lifelong curiosity to his woodcarving practice, Oregon-based Julian Watts experiments with the limitations and possibilities of wood as a material in order to reveal its natural tones and highlight the grain. For Julian, spending time alone in the woods is essential for building upon his conceptual foundation – ideas around nature, the human body and our relationship to the built environment.

Celebrating a new chapter in USA craft

As we welcome the USA to Homo Faber Guide, we celebrate a craft landscape shaped by the fusion of cultures, traditions and techniques that defines the country’s creative spirit. Capturing this ethos is New York-based ceramicist Jane Yang-D’Haene , whose work embodies a multilayered exploration of ceramic traditions like Korean Moon Jars and contemporary identity, and will be exhibited at Homo Faber Biennial in Venice in September.
