The ending of day 3 in Geneva was outstanding. Our very own IFNA 2nd VP, Mary Mugai from Kenya opened The Global Surgery Foundation side event and had the audience spellbound. She told the story of a preventable (for most of us) maternal and child death in Kenya. Much of the audience was moved to tears. Later while serving on a panel Mary advocated for provider education - which could have prevented the very deaths she detailed. Almost every panelist named Mary and spoke directly to her during a part of their response.
Thank you Mary - for what you do traveling all over Eastern Africa in remote and sometimes unsafe locations to educate nurse anesthetists and nurses! You are an inspiring role model for change.

Day 3 Geneva
Back at the International Red Cross Museum for the very first ever Nursing and Midwifery side event at the World Health Assembly. IFNA’s very own (2nd VP) Mary Mungai was sponsored by the Global Surgery Foundation to be a panelist speaking about Kenya’s very successful training program for nurse anesthetists. She was awesome! The WHO Chief Nurse and the ICN President were speakers along with a global midwifery leader. Jackie Rowles (IFNA Executive Director) was honored to be a closing speaker along with Jenny Gilbertson from the Laerdal Foundation. The room was packed!
