The YMCA was founded 180 years ago in London by Sir George Williams in 1844. We are one of the oldest and largest international Christian youth organisations in the world, founded on the philosophy of supporting young people in their communities.
Today, the YMCA is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and has grown to reach more than 65 million people in 120 countries each year. We are deeply rooted in the community, with decades of experience helping young people and communities thrive, and an extensive global network. The YMCA has nearly 90,000 staff, approximately 920,000 volunteers and 12,000 branches around the world. We are working in four key areas through the YMCA 2030 vision: community well-being, meaningful work, a sustainable planet and a just world.
The YMCA movement believes and supports the right of all young people to work in flexible, dignified and meaningful work and to build sustainable livelihoods.
