reminds us that climate action is also nutrition action.

As climate change affects food production, access to healthy diets and livelihoods, its impact is felt most deeply by communities already facing food and nutrition insecurity.

At Sight and Life, we believe building a healthier future means strengthening the systems that nourish both people and the planet. That is why our work is designed with people, the environment and climate resilience in mind.

Through our projects, this takes different forms.

🔹Our work on fermentation explores how traditional food processing can improve the nutritional value, safety and shelf life of local foods, while reducing food loss and supporting more sustainable diets.

🔹Through the DECARB-CO project, we are supporting circular economy approaches that convert food processing waste into useful products such as compost, helping to reduce environmental waste while creating value within food systems.

🔹Through the NICE project, we are working with partners to promote agroecology practices, local nutritious foods and healthier diets in city food systems, supporting communities to produce and consume food in ways that are better for both people and the planet.

Across our wider portfolio, from sustainable aquaculture to food systems strengthening, our goal remains the same: to advance practical nutrition solutions that are good for communities, good for health and good for the environment.

This World Environment Day, we join the call to act , because protecting the environment is essential to protecting nutrition, health and future generations.

📖The Global Nutrition Report 2026, is now live, and it comes at a time when the links between climate, food systems, health systems and nutrition have never been more urgent.

Its message is clear: improving nutrition in today’s world requires connected systems, coordinated action and solutions that move beyond silos.

📍At Sight and Life, this strongly reflects the way we work. We connect evidence, policy, markets, communities and delivery systems to ensure nutrition solutions are efficiently designed and delivered in ways that improve health and nutrition outcomes.

In this post, we highlight 10 key takeaways from the report and what they mean for nutrition action.

The challenge is complex, but the direction is clear. Better nutrition depends on connected systems, stronger partnerships and solutions that can move from evidence to impact.

🇷🇼 Rwanda is taking a decisive step toward reducing micronutrient deficiencies!

As co-convener of the technical working group on food fortification, alongside World Food Programme, UNICEF, FAO, and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), Sight and Life joined partners from government, academia, research institutions, and NGOs in Musanze last week for a two-day workshop on Rwanda’s food fortification policy.

Requested by the Ministry of Agriculture & Animal Resources (MINAGRI), the policy supports a shift from voluntary to mandatory and , with a focus on reducing micronutrient deficiencies among women and children under five.

This was the third in a series of validation workshops. Together, participants reviewed nutrient deficiency data, explored modelling on the potential contribution of fortification and biofortification to national nutrition outcomes, and provided structured feedback on the draft policy.

Rwanda’s commitment to making fortification mandatory marks a significant step toward strengthening nutrition outcomes. With the draft policy now heading to Cabinet for review, the country is moving from dialogue to action and we are proud to play a role in building the evidence base and stakeholder consensus needed to support durable nutrition policy.

New study by Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Consortium published in Nutrients MDPI presents findings from multi-country implementation case studies on the delivery of balanced energy and protein (BEP) supplementation to pregnant and lactating women in low- and middle-income countries.

The World Health Organization recommends the use of BEP supplements during pregnancy in settings where at least 20% of women of reproductive age are underweight, to reduce the risk of adverse health outcomes.

While several countries are implementing BEP supplementation in different formats, implementation and monitoring of outcomes remain poor across countries.

This qualitative study explored the experiences, opportunities, and challenges related to implementing national and sub-national BEP supplementation programmes in nine countries: Haiti, India, Malawi, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Senegal, and Sri Lanka.

Key findings include:

🔹In non-humanitarian settings, BEP supplementation was commonly integrated into government health systems or social protection programmes.

🔹In humanitarian contexts, implementation often relied on partner-led models, including support from UN organisations.

🔹Clear operational protocols, including behaviour change communication strategies, helped facilitate implementation.

🔹Partnerships with community-based organisations helped strengthen adherence.

🔹Implementation costs, stock shortages, and geographic inequities in coverage varied across settings and limited scale-up, particularly in humanitarian contexts.

We are pleased to have contributed to this important paper!

For more than 2 billion people globally, a healthy diet remains out of reach. For women and children, the impact is often even greater, as they have increased nutritional needs during critical stages of growth, development, and pregnancy.

Hunger and food insecurity do not only mean empty plates. They also drive malnutrition, affecting health, learning, productivity, and long-term wellbeing, with women, children, and vulnerable populations often bearing the greatest burden.

At Sight and Life, we work with partners to reach those most at risk through science-based, market-focused initiatives that help prevent malnutrition, improve diets, and strengthen food systems.

This World Hunger Day, we join the global call to act, because ending hunger also means ensuring access to safe, affordable, diverse, and nutritious foods for all.

For adolescent girls, is closely connected to dignity, education, nutrition, mental health and wellbeing. Girls need accurate information, safe and well-equipped facilities, access to period products, supportive communities, and health services that respond to their needs.

At Sight and Life, our work in adolescent health and anemia reminds us that menstrual health should not be addressed in isolation. It must be part of a broader approach that supports girls’ nutrition, prevents anemia, reduces pain, strengthens school and community health systems, and enables every girl to participate fully in daily life.

This , we join the call to build a more period-friendly world, one where every girl is informed, nourished, supported, and able to thrive.

Sight and Life is pleased to be part of the Commercializing Small-Scale Fish Farming in Tanzania (COMFISH) project, working alongside Norges Vel Tanzania (), the Aquaculture Association of Tanzania (), and SUSTAIN to support the development of a sustainable, climate-resilient, and commercially viable tilapia value chain.

Recently, project partners came together as part of early coordination efforts for , providing an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and build a shared understanding of how each partner’s expertise will contribute to the project’s implementation in .

Through COMFISH, partners will work to improve small-scale tilapia production, expand access to quality inputs and markets, and advance commercially oriented fish farming models that create income opportunities for small-scale producers.

Sight and Life will lead the nutrition and healthy diets component of the project. Our work will focus on helping ensure that increased tilapia production contributes to improved diets and food security. This will include a nutrition module in the farmer training, household engagement, locally adapted recipes, and cooking sessions.

🫱🏾‍🫲🏼We look forward to working with partners to advance practical, market-led solutions that support small-scale producers and improve diet quality for communities.

We are proud to partner with and on the SA 2025 Study! This is an important initiative that will help strengthen the evidence base for maternal nutrition in South Africa 🇿🇦

As global momentum around multiple micronutrient supplementation continues to grow, this study will generate critical local evidence on the acceptability and adherence of MMS during pregnancy, helping to inform ongoing policy discussions and health system preparedness efforts in South Africa.

The Government of South Africa continues to demonstrate commitment to improving maternal and child health outcomes, and research initiatives such as this are important for supporting evidence-informed decision-making around antenatal nutrition interventions.

At Sight and Life, we believe that strong partnerships and locally driven evidence are essential to improving maternal and child nutrition outcomes. We are excited to support research that can help inform healthier futures for women and children.
