URGENT HUMANITARIAN ALERT 🚨
🇨🇩 Call for Aid for Displaced Persons in South Kivu!
United for Peace and Aid International (UNPAI) expresses its deepest concern over the massive displacement of populations in the localities of Kamanyola, Luvungi, Mutarule, Luberizi and their surroundings, in the Uvira territory, South Kivu province, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Escalation of Violence and Consequences
Since Wednesday, December 3, 2025, violent clashes have erupted between the AFC/M23 coalition (allegedly supported by Rwanda) and the FARDC (Armed Forces of the DRC) backed by the so-called Wazalendo militias. These intense battles, particularly in the Ruzizi Plain and around Kamanyola, have forced thousands of civilians to flee their homes hastily, seeking refuge in areas considered safer.
Reports indicate the use of heavy weapons, leading to the destruction of homes and reports of injuries, including children.
Populations are fleeing the intensity of the fighting, abandoning everything behind them.
The displaced, mostly women and children, are in a state of great vulnerability, with an urgent need for food, shelter, medical care, and protection.
Demand for Protection and Access
UNPAI issues a solemn appeal to the belligerent parties:
Immediately cease hostilities and respect international humanitarian law, guaranteeing the unconditional protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access to the affected areas to allow organizations to deliver vital assistance to the displaced populations and host communities.
