TiE is proud to spotlight John Smyth in this week’s Member Threads - a seasoned wealth advisor whose journey blends market insight, relationship-driven advising, and a deep understanding of entrepreneurial needs.

John began his career on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade in 1993 and has since built a remarkable track record across top-tier financial institutions. Currently a Managing Director at Merrill Private Wealth Management, John has also held senior leadership roles at J.P. Morgan and First Republic Investment Management.

His expertise lies in serving private business owners and general partners of private equity and venture capital firms - providing intergenerational wealth planning, asset management, and strategic financial counsel. Today, John leads a team of twelve professionals focused on helping families navigate the complexities of long-term wealth.

But beyond the titles, what defines John is his genuine commitment to people. A former member of both TiE Boston and TiE Silicon Valley, he now brings his perspective and energy to the TiE Tampa Bay community.

John lives in Palm Beach, is a proud father of two, and has traveled to India on multiple business visits - experiences that continue to shape his global outlook.

John’s journey is a reminder that success isn’t just about financial acumen - it’s about leading with trust, wisdom, and a long view. We’re proud to have him in the TiE Tampa Bay community.

From Polymers to Purpose: A Journey of Purpose and Possibility

TiE is proud to spotlight Dr. Murali Sethumadhavan in this week’s Member Threads - a thoughtful innovator whose journey bridges material science, sustainability, and education.

With over 25 years of experience in the field, Murali has led R&D and business development efforts at companies like Rogers Corporation, and now plays key roles at SetPad, Prithvi Ventures, dClimate, and Boston Materials. His work spans advanced materials, climate tech, and early-stage innovation - always with an eye toward long-term impact.

Beyond his technical accomplishments - including a PhD in Polymer Science from UMass Amherst, a Master’s from IIT Delhi, and over 30 patents - Murali is deeply committed to giving back. He co-founded Young Einstein’s Science Club and works with Beyond Benign to bring green chemistry into K-12 classrooms, encouraging curiosity and creativity in the next generation.

After years of contributing to the TiE Boston community, Murali has recently made Tampa his home - and we’re excited to welcome him back into the TiE family here.

Tee began his journey as an entrepreneur and operator, building businesses from the ground up and experiencing firsthand the challenges and rewards of business ownership. That entrepreneurial spirit remains at the heart of who he is today. Currently, Tee leads Transora Partners, a transition-focused investment and advisory firm dedicated to helping owner-led and family-owned businesses navigate the complexities of transition.

Passionate about solving tough business problems and creating actionable paths forward, Tee now focuses his energy on supporting business owners at pivotal transition points. He’s equally eager to connect with trusted professionals who serve these owners during some of their most important decisions.

Tee is excited to tie his professional experience to something meaningful beyond the boardroom through TiE. He’s especially drawn to supporting younger founders, helping them think long-term, and building something that lasts.
