From local discovery to global impact 🌍

In less than a month, our Executive Director, Ravonna Martin, will represent the ILP at the 14th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research led by the .

On September 15, Ravonna will contribute to the plenary discussion on research gaps and capacity-building partnerships in Africa, examining disparities in cancer research funding and the need to strengthen locally led research capacity—particularly in Central Africa.

Join us online and learn more about how the ILP and our allies are growing a more equitable, locally-based approach to cancer research and care.

The ILP reaches beyond Kisangani. 💞

This week, surplus antibiotics and medical supplies from our last health campaign at IDP camps near the DRC border were donated to the New Hope Medical Center in Goma, helping to expand our impact for even more patients in need.

Our team sends enormous gratitude to Alain Bayongwa and for connecting us with new partners and continuing to build bridges of solidarity across the Democratic Republic of the Congo 🙏

🥰🥳 One year ago, we opened the doors of the Ida Lee House with a simple but ambitious vision: to create a place where women facing cancer could find safety, dignity, community, and hope.

Today, that vision has become something far greater than a compound. The Ida Lee House is a sanctuary for women’s health in the DRC, providing compassionate care while helping strengthen access to breast and cervical cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

“Three years ago, I noticed a small lump that was not painful, so I neglected it. Over time, it became very large and painful. I went to traditional healers and spent a lot of money, but nothing changed... Finally, my cousin, who was once a patient at the Ida Lee Project, told me to come here... They had to remove my breast, but I am alive. We thank God for the Ida Lee Project. Bless your work.”

Seven years ago. 💜

A flashback to Dr. Ravonna's first meeting with Dr. Denis Mukwege at Panzi Hospital in Bukavu.

That conversation helped shape a vision that, years later, has grown into the Ida Lee House and expanded access for women's cancer care in the DRC.

Better data leads to better care ✅

We're thrilled to be expanding our research partnership with Columbia University to strengthen cancer data collection and patient monitoring systems at the Ida Lee House.

These advances will not only help us better support the women we serve, but also contribute to a growing global body of research on women's cancers in the DRC.

💛 Support this critical work through our GlobalGiving campaign linked below! Every contribution helps advance research, improve patient care, and expand access to life-saving services for women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Nearly one year ago, the Ida Lee House opened its doors with a simple mission: to ensure women facing cancer never have to face it alone.

Since then, hundreds of women have found care, comfort, and community within these walls. Every woman who walks through our doors brings her own journey of strength, challenges, hope, and determination.

As we celebrate our first year, we're sharing the voices of some of the women who have trusted us with their care. Their stories are at the heart of everything we do, and we are deeply grateful to walk alongside them 💞

We are SO proud. This week our ILP manager, Arlette, officially passed her exams to become a midwife nurse, allowed to write scripts and see patients without a supervising physician.

🔑 Our investment in her education is the future of the Ida Lee Project. Ravonna, ILP founder, shared, "feel like my daughter just graduated from nursing school!" 🥹

Félicitations, Arlette ! Nous sommes profondément inspirés par votre dévouement et touchés par l'impact positif que vous aurez sur les femmes au Congo et au-delà 💛
