Access to SRHR/GBV services is a right to all PWDs irrespective of gender, race, ethnic background, etc. However, the service providers of SRHR/GBV are still ignorant of silent issues and challenges which are limiting PWDs, especially women with disabilities from equitably accessing these services in their localities as a right and not a favor. UNAPD therefore through UNFPA small grant has continued to empower her district association PWDs leaders of Mukono and Wakiso, together with SRHR/GBV stakeholders to practically understand the challenges PWDs face, silent issues between disability and sexuality/GBV, and strategic ways of reducing the effects of GBV/sexual assaults, like: strategic advocacy and lobbying, inclusive referral mechanisms, first aid treatment, reporting systems, etc. These discussions have involved relevant stakeholders in field of GBV/SRHR, such Police Officers in charge of child & family protection Unit, GBV Units, Medical Personals, and CSOs at local level...More updates are coming💪💪👍👍

After a resourceful day of training our association of Wakiso, yesterday UNAPD turned attention to train PWD leaders/members of Mukono District Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities on strategic areas of SRHR/GBV prevention and management. The training was aimed at imparting practical knowledge and skills among association leaders to effectively advocate and influence inclusive access to SRHR/GBV services in their localities in order to have inclusive service delivery, especially for PWDs. Participants benefited from the skills and practical experiences of Police Officer in charge of family Unit of Mukono Police Station, Senior Midwife of Mukono District Hospital, and UNAPD staff in charge of SRHR and among the key silent issues highlighted by participants is the poor referral system at the hospital level which is discriminatory especially to young girls and women with disabilities. This intervention is part of small grant to UNAPD supported by UNFPA - Uganda.💪💪💪👍More updates are coming
