LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET โ€“ In a historic shift of power at the Wangal Sports Complex, Tabuk City Gumiho softball team was crowned the new secondary division champion after a grueling toe-to-toe duel against their long rival, the Baguio City E-Lions.

The victory marks a monumental achievement for Tabuk City as they successfully unseated Baguio squad that had maintained a firm grip on the championship title throughout the 2024 and 2025 CARAA seasons. With this win, Team Tabuk City earns the prestigious honor of representing the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa to be held in Agusan Del Sur on May 2026.

The E-Lions entered the diamond with the poise of defending champion, leveraging their 2025 Palarong Pambansa experience to deliver an early home run that powered the team to a 2-0 advantage. This lead held firm through the first three innings as the Baguio squad outran the Tabuk batters with seasoned precision. However, the momentum began to shift significantly in the fourth inning when Tabuk City ignited their offense to score two runs. By the end of the fifth inning, the Gumiho had leveled the score at 2-2, setting the stage for a high-stakes finish.

The decisive turning point arrived in the sixth inning fueled by the tight defense and sheer determination of the Tabuk City team. Led by the powerhouse tandem of Andriene Ligad and Rafamae Rozanne Alcodia, the Gumiho launched a massive 4-0 run highlighted by a critical home run that reversed the scoreboard to 8-4 in favor of Tabuk City. While the E-Lions Lady Batters fought desperately to regain their momentum in the closing moments, they did not succeed in reclaiming the lead despite having the advantage of being the last batter.

The unwavering resolve of the Gumiho squad kept the pressure on until the very las

City Hall will strictly enforce a total no-smoking policy within its compound starting next year, the Smoke-Free Task Force announced on December 15.

City Public Order and Safety Office (CPOSO) Head Domingo Burcio made the announcement during the regular flag-raising ceremony, emphasizing that the move is in full compliance with the cityโ€™s anti-smoking ordinance and its implementing rules and regulations.

The policy is mandated under City Ordinance No. 006, Series of 2024, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance of Fabuk City.

The ordinance prohibits smoking within a 100-meter radius of health facilities, schools, and fire-hazard areas.

City Hall falls within the restricted zones, as it is located near a rural health facility, three schools, and a gasoline station.

Burcio reminded everyone including city government employees and visitors to strictly comply with the law.

Violators will be apprehended by law enforcers and issued citation tickets.

The ordinance will be implemented by the task force such as the CPOSO, CHSO, CPIO, CENRO, CBPLO, CLSO in coordination with the police and other partner agencies.

The measure is aligned with the Universal Health Care Act of 2019 (Republic Act No. 11223), which mandates local government units to adopt stricter policies to strengthen public health programs.

It also supports initiatives promoting health literacy and healthy lifestyles to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors, particularly to***co and alcohol use. By Ian Addatu & Graphics by Rio Bassong
