This massive pile of rocks was collected by students the El Dorado Nursing School in Mulongo, DR Congo in preparation for the much anticipated construction of the women's dormitory. Our nursing students come from villages all over the region, and currently they all must seek lodging in Mulongo. Finding safe housing near campus is especially difficult for the women in the program. A dormitory on campus would solve that problem. Want to know more? Check out the comment section!

Update: Rev. Joseph Mulongo has made it to Lubumbashi unharmed, but he does not have a safe way to get home to his family in Mulongo, as there is violence in the villages along the Red Road.

We received this distressing report from Rev. Joseph Mulongo today. Please keep Joseph, the team, and the entire community in your prayers.
"Hello there ! A clash between militias and government soldiers in Bukama, 30 kms from Luena, where I am meeting with the secretaries of our annual conferences, and the Upemba conference staff. 3 civilians were reported dead shot by soldiers. People are under fear and Luena was shaken late in the afternoon. People were running in all directions claiming that the militias were in the city doors. No traffic, we are stuck."

An update from Rev. Joseph Mulongo:

Our nursing school in Mulongo and the college recently hosted the second meeting of all the presidents and boards of trustees of universities and colleges in our province. The participants were impressed by the work and the infrastructure on the site.

Someone made a motion to give me the time to explain how we arrived where we are. I took the time to explain the work FPM did and is still doing. I told them about Bob Walters. They heard about him and were excited to visit his tomb.

The FPM family grieves the passing of Rev. Maxime Mbayo Mwepu Mujinga (March 1955 – Jan 2026), who served for many years as the Conference Evangelist for North Katanga. A scholar with graduate degrees in Leadership and Hebrew Bible theology, he taught at several institutions in the region and worked heavily on the Kiluba Bible translation project, as he was fluent in French, English, Swahili, and Kiluba and had studied Hebrew and Greek.

(You may remember when Biking Bob was campaigning to raise funds for the conference evangelists' initiative to travel to remote locations and lead trainings and distribute Bibles to church leaders who could not afford them. If you read Taylor's published dissertation, Decolonizing Mission Partnerships, you would have found many of Rev. Maxime Mbayo's insightful observations and words of wisdom in the interview sections.)

Happy Holidays from the Friendly Planet Family! Our end-of-year letter, including 2026 fundraising priorities are in the works. A few big announcements include: Rev. Joseph Mulongo was elected this fall as the Bishop's Representative for the newly formed Upemba Annual Conference, Rev. Dr. Taylor Denyer begins her tenure on the UMC's Judicial Council next month, and the grand opening ceremony for the Rev. Dr. Bob Walters Memorial Church will be in 2026!
