Sunday, April 19 | Coalition for Better Rail Town Hall and Community Conversation - Tamworth Legion (1-4 PM)

Save Stone Mills is honoured to be co-hosting a community event in our community this Sunday, April 19th at the Tamworth Legion from 1:00–4:00 PM.

This gathering has grown out of connections made following the town hall SSM hosted in February, bringing together individuals from across Stone Mills Township and neighbouring communities who, like us, are continuing to show up, ask questions, and think carefully about what comes next.

As with SSM and other groups within the study corridors this group remain firmly opposed to the ALTO high-speed rail project. That sentiment hasn’t changed. At the same time, there is a shared interest in broadening the conversation, exploring alternatives, and considering what solutions might better serve our communities, our environment, and the future of rail more generally.

As the formal Alto Public Consultation phase begins to wind down, the work doesn’t stop but some of it may shift a little. There is still space to be heard, and an opportunity to think more strategically about how community voices can continue to reach decision-makers in meaningful ways and this will continue to look the same as it has and will also perhaps evolve into new directions.

This event will be the first of what we expect will be several opportunities to listen, ask questions, share feedback, and connect with those stepping into this next phase of advocacy.

Save Stone Mills’ role in this remains one of support. We’re not here to direct the narrative or suggest there’s a single “right” way to engage. In reality, there likely isn’t one clear, most impactful move and if progress is made, it will be because of many different efforts coming together in ways we may never be able to fully measure.

People are contributing in different ways, at different capacities, and that matters. Creating space for people to do what they can -and to feel proud of it - will always move things further than making anyone feel they aren’t doing enough or doing the “right” thing.

We’re all finding our way through this together.

We hope you’ll join us on Sunday.

Please see event information and Itinerary attached. If you have questions about the event or the Coalition for Better Rail please reach out to them via their website www.beyondalto.ca or email [email protected]
