Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts

Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts Community capacity building since 2000. We are inspired by the social renewal movement that began in 1939 -now known all over the world as Camphill.

We foster cognitive, social, physical and emotional development through the arts, encouraging inclusive community through recreation and arts programming and design leadership. We are open to partnering with anyone to collaborate in the design and development of model barrier free neighbourhoods that can produce food, energy, health, wellbeing and prosperity for all people. https://www.camphill.org

We are grateful for being invited by our friends at NSCC Kingstec to demonstrate the social integration magic of JAM DANCE today. We had awesome musical improv back-up from Music In Communities Coop members Ewen, Tyler and ORyan. We look forward to show more people how to be Jam Dance facilitators. So please like and follow us for announcements about workshops, talks, and of course, JAM DANCES. 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️

Jam Dance is a fun program combining live improvised music with creative physical play. It helps communities grow capacities for healthy social integration. No two jams are ever the same but all have been a joy.

The Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts is seeking new members to join its Board of Directors.

The Society’s mission is to nurture inclusive communities through arts-based activities. At the core of our programming are Creative Arts programs focusing on people with developmental delays. We also offer exciting community Jam Dance events. Please have a look at www.alexandersociety.org to view the programs that have been inspiring people for the last 25 years!
We invite new energy into the Society to help shape the next 25 years!
We are looking for people who are community minded and interested in fostering the inclusion of people of all abilities into community. Knowledge of disability issues, fundraising, financial matters, etc. are an asset.

The Board term will begin in January and last for three years with the possibility of continuing for another three years.

Join the Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts for our annual Advent Candlelight Ceremony.
Beautiful live music will accompany individuals on their walk to the centre of an evergreen spiral to light a candle in celebration of the solstice season. As the room gradually fills with candlelight, we are reminded of the promise of the return of the light.
This is a peaceful, rejuvenating experience. People of all ages and abilities are invited to join us on Sunday, December 7th at 4 pm in the L’Arche Hall, 341 Main Street, Wolfville. The event will last about an hour. Donations are welcome.

"Alexander" means "protector of humanity". That means all of us. We need each other. Thanks to everyone who is following our work here. We are in a process of succession. That means we invite you to take up this community nourishing work. It truly is a joy to engage in integrated social groups of all abilities to communicate and feel each other's gifts beyond words. To simply be with each other and play in ways that are creative and gentle and uplifting our shared humanity. Please reach out to us if you would like to learn how to facilitate this work in your community.

I am full of sadness as I post this. A very dear friend passed away last night after a short illness. Michelle Coole was a dedicated mother and advocate for her children and for people who have intellectual challenges. She was tireless in her pursuit of justice for all. Michelle was deeply involved in the beginnings of the Alexander Society for Inclusive Arts and was on the Board of Directors for much of the last 25 years. We will miss her perspective, her knowledge, her sense of humour, and mostly her Being with us. Deepest sympathies go out to her immediate family: husband Brian, daughters Jessica and Kaitlyn.
