We dare you to watch this and not smile! We had a genuine party the other day on Tower 7, and for an hour, our residents clapped, sang, and danced along. (watch for the lady shimmying at the end. It’s the best!)

We recently had the chance to visit a music therapy class on Tower 7, and it was impossible not to smile watching residents fully engaged, laughing, moving, and singing together.

What residents may not realize while they’re being guided through stretching and mobility exercises is that music therapy is doing so much more than filling the room with joy.

It’s supporting movement. Encouraging coordination and mobility. Sparking memories. Reducing anxiety. Creating connection.

And honestly? You could feel the joy the moment you walked into the room.

We can’t wait for more!

Recently, we got to experience something truly eye-opening at Deer Lodge Centre’s Communication Devices Program.

Our team had the chance to try adaptive communication technology, including eye-gaze devices that allow people to “speak with their eyes.” And honestly? It changed the way we think about communication.

For Manitobans living with conditions like ALS, stroke, cerebral palsy, brain injuries, and other severe communication challenges, these devices can mean independence, connection, confidence, and being able to fully participate in daily life again.

It’s hard to describe how emotional it is to watch someone communicate using only their eyes, until you try it yourself!

We left feeling inspired, humbled, and incredibly grateful for the work happening inside this program every day.

Accessibility matters. Communication matters. Being heard matters.

Something special is taking shape at Deer Lodge Centre.
The plants are going in, the water features are flowing, the furniture is arriving, and little by little, the courtyard is coming to life.

This space was designed to give residents, patients, staff, and families a beautiful place to gather, visit, reflect, and enjoy fresh air together. We can’t wait to officially reopen itlater this month.

Know someone who works at Deer Lodge Centre or has a loved one there? Share this sneak peek with them so they can see what’s coming.

National Indigenous History Month is a time to celebrate the cultures, histories, traditions and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, but it is also a time for reflection, learning and continued action.

At Deer Lodge Centre, reconciliation in healthcare means creating spaces where Indigenous patients, residents, families and staff feel respected, welcomed and safe. It means listening to Indigenous voices, supporting culturally safe care and continuing the ongoing work of building more inclusive healthcare environments for all.

In our latest blog, we explore Deer Lodge Centre’s journey toward reconciliation, the importance of cultural safety in healthcare and the meaningful work happening every day to support Indigenous communities.

Pride Month is about celebration, visibility and community, but it is also about ensuring every person feels safe, respected and seen for who they are, especially within healthcare spaces.

At Deer Lodge Centre, creating inclusive healthcare environments means supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ patients, residents, families and staff through compassion, dignity and equitable care. From inclusive spaces and affirming programs to ongoing education and advocacy, meaningful inclusion happens through everyday actions that help people feel welcomed exactly as they are.

Why does inclusive healthcare matter? Why is representation alongside the ongoing work being done to support 2SLGBTQIA+ Manitobans at Deer Lodge Centre Important?

Most of us don’t think twice about swallowing.

It’s something that just… happens.

But for many Manitobans, it isn’t that simple.

Something as routine as eating, drinking, or taking medication can become uncertain. And before care teams can help, they need to understand exactly what’s happening.

That’s where a TIMS machine comes in. It allows clinicians to see, in real time, how a person is swallowing, so they can provide the safest, most appropriate care.

Right now, this essential piece of equipment is reaching the end of its life.

Replacing it means patients can continue to get answers, care plans can be built with confidence, and something as meaningful as sitting down for a meal can feel safe again.

If you’d like to learn more about this important work, we’ve shared the full story at the link in our bio.

And if you’re in a position to give, every contribution helps support the care our patients rely on!

In Manitoba, Victoria Day is the moment everything shifts.

The windows open. The sun lingers a little longer. And suddenly, it feels like summer is right around the corner!

At Deer Lodge Centre, that feeling matters more than most.

Because summer means fresh air, visits outside, and moments in the sun that break up long days indoors.

And this year, it means something more: our courtyard is getting closer! It’s not QUITE finished yet, but close enough to start imagining what it will be.

Residents sitting outside. Families gathering. Music, laughter, life filling the space again.

That’s what you’re helping build! Thank you!
