Builders, designers and contractors: Manitoba's 2025 code changes are out for consultation, and they include the province's first energy tier increase. 🏗️

📅 June 22, 2027: the 2025 national codes take effect

📅 January 1, 2028: Part 9 moves to Tier 3, and NECB buildings move to Tier 2

The cost case is there. The province's own assessment puts Tier 3 at about $4,850 for a home built at today's minimum, with an 8.4-year payback. That's roughly $27 a month on a mortgage, against about $48 a month in energy savings.

What's missing is a date for the next steps in the tiers (hopefully on an accelerated timeline). Builders need certainty to plan designs, training and crews.

THE PAS: We want to hear your opinions on the law, critical minerals, environmental protection, and public health - as related to the mining industry!

WHAT WE’LL TALK ABOUT:
⚒️ How is the mining industry in Manitoba regulated?
⚒️ How is the public currently involved in mining decisions?
⚒️ How should communities be involved in the future?
⚒️ What mining innovations or legal reforms from other places could be adopted here?

This project examines how Manitoba can modernize the provincial laws that govern mining and critical minerals, to support a more environmentally responsible and socially-just future for the province.

We want to hear from communities across Manitoba about their experiences, their ideas for law and policy reform, and help communities participate meaningfully in the governance of the mining sector.

This workshop will review mining practices and ask communities about their priorities for reform.

We have refreshed our webpage about Manitoba Hydro's Integrated Resource Plan, adding the evidence and resources we submitted for review to the Public Utility Board. By exploring this webpage, you can learn about Wa Ni Ska Tan's expert consultants and community witnesses, and Wa Ni Ska Tan's activities during the review process. You will also be able to access the written/oral evidence, public hearing presentations, and other related resources.

Thank you to everyone who supported Wa Ni Ska Tan’s work in the IRP review process. We will continue to work for better Indigenous engagement, involvement, and consultation processes in energy planning to meaningfully reflect community perspectives and needs.
