Participants gathered at the Winnipeg Convention Centre before marching together to the Union Centre alongside fellow activists and labour organizations from across the country. The event brought together workers in a powerful show of unity, pride, and collective strength.

The rally featured music, activities, and opportunities to connect with union members from coast to coast while recognizing the important role unions continue to play in protecting workers’ rights, fair wages, safe workplaces, and strong public services.

As the host province for Canada’s unions, Manitoba showed its labour pride loud and clear, with union flags and signs proudly displayed throughout the march and rally.

CUPE 998 is proud to stand in solidarity with workers across Canada and remain committed to advocating for fairness, respect, and strong public sector jobs for all members.

May 1 – International Workers’ Day

Today, CUPE 998 recognizes May Day — a day rooted in the fight for fairness, dignity, and respect in the workplace.

It’s a moment to reflect on the progress workers have made through solidarity and collective action, and to recognize that those gains were never handed out — they were fought for.

We also look at where we are today. Workers continue to face challenges around job security, workload, workplace change, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and life. These conversations matter, and they’re happening because members continue to speak up and stand together.

CUPE 998 remains committed to protecting the rights of our members, advocating for fair treatment, and ensuring your voices are heard at every table.

May Day is about unity. It’s about strength in numbers. And it’s about continuing the work to build better workplaces for everyone.

We gathered at Memorial Park for the National Day of Mourning — to remember those who have lost their lives, been injured, or made ill because of their work.

Thanks to Safe Workers of Tomorrow and the Manitoba Federation of Labour, the event brought together a strong and united group — dignitaries from Manitoba’s NDP government, unions, workers, and employers.

Despite our different roles, we stood together with one clear message: we can — and must — ensure that every worker goes home safe.

It’s about more than remembrance. It’s about commitment. A commitment to safer workplaces, stronger protections, and holding each other accountable.

We honour those we’ve lost by continuing to push for change — because no job should cost a life.

🕛 12:00 PM – Ceremony at the Workers Memorial

Every name, every story matters. This day is not only about remembrance, but also about our continued responsibility to push for safer workplaces for everyone.

Mourn the dead. Fight for the living.

Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Please join the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL) and Safe Workers of Tomorrow (SWOT) in marking the Day of Mourning on Tuesday April 28 in Winnipeg.

The Leaders’ Walk will begin at 11:30 am, leaving from the Union Centre and proceeding down Broadway to the Workers Memorial at Memorial Park (across from the Legislature).

A Day of Mourning Ceremony will be held at the Workers Memorial beginning at Noon.

International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, a day to recognize the strength, leadership, and contributions of women in our workplaces, our union, and our communities.

Women have always played a powerful role in the labour movement. From advocating for fair wages and safe workplaces to supporting one another through challenges, women continue to shape stronger, more inclusive workplaces for everyone.

At CUPE 998, we are proud of the many women who lead, mentor, advocate, and lift others up every day. Your dedication, resilience, and commitment make a real difference not only within our workplaces but across our communities.

Today is a reminder that while we celebrate progress, the work toward equality, respect, and opportunity for all women continues. Together, through solidarity and support, we move forward.

Happy International Womens Day
