Hello MDA Members and Deaf Community in Manitoba,

Mark your calendars! MDA's Christmas Party is happening December 5, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 12:30 AM at Valley Gardens Community Centre, 218 Antrim Rd, Winnipeg.

Come celebrate the season with us! We'll have a Christmas draw, 50/50, and more!

And of course, a delicious dinner is included! This year's menu features:
Roast turkey with dressing
Turkey gravy
Swedish meatballs
Cabbage rolls
Mashed potatoes
Coleslaw
Mixed vegetables
Dinner rolls & butter
Cranberry sauce

MDA Members:
$35 for adults, $20 for children, and free for children under 3.

Non-members:
$45 for adults, $30 for children, and free for children under 3.

Note: All pricing above includes one drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic).

Lights, Flags & Events: Manitoba Celebrates IWDP 2026

Hello MDA Members and Deaf Community in Manitoba,

International Week of the Deaf People is coming, and Manitoba is lighting up to celebrate!

This year, 20 landmarks across Manitoba will Shine a Blue Light On Sign Languages, from Brandon to Dauphin, Gimli to Morden, Winnipeg and everywhere in between.

On top of that, 4 locations will host Global Deaf Flag Raisings, including Brandon City Hall, Manitoba School for the Deaf, RRC Polytech, Memorial Park at Legislative Assembly of Manitoba.

Many events are happening the week of September 21-27, with many landmarks lighting up specifically on September 23.

2026 MDA Membership Update: Are You Confirmed?

Hello MDA Members and Deaf Community in Manitoba,

I'm Andrew Stadnicki, current MDA President. MDA strives to advocate for a better quality of life for all Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in Manitoba.

We want to let you know that we believe we are at the end of rebuilding our membership list for 2026.

If you received this message by email, you are a confirmed member of MDA for 2026.

If you did not receive this message by email but saw through social media like Facebook and/or Instagram, you are not a confirmed member of MDA for 2026. If you believe this is a mistake, please contact us at [email protected].

Yes, we are still open for new member registration! We currently have 76 members, and our goal is to reach 100 members by the end of this year. Our membership registration form can be found on our website, mbdeafassoc.ca. Please note that membership fees follow the April-December Membership Fee Schedule (see the second section). Yes, we're actively working on improving the clarity of this form for 2027!

This year, IWDP has expanded to more locations doing blue lighting and flag raisings, with possibly more being added before September 23. Stay tuned!

Hello! My name is Stephanie Jebb (Name sign; SC). I am the Indigenous Director for MDA. I am excited for the next couple of years as we plan activities and events for the Indigenous community, as pow wows, sweat lodges, and more!

Hello! My name is Deborah Owczar (Name sign; on shoulder DC). I continue serving as a Rural Director for MDA. I am committed to encourage more people especially those living in the rural communities to become members of MDA. Thank you!

Hello! My name is Katie Churchill (Name sign; K). I am your Treasurer for MDA. I look forward to working on finances, budgets and grants to help MDA grow for the future. Thank you!

Hello everyone! My name is Leonardo Salgado (Name sign; L). I am your new Media Director. Starting soon, I will be sharing news and updates including on website and other platforms. I hope to connect with all of you!

There you have our new MDA team, wonderful! Some members are serving one-year terms and others are serving two-year terms. Now, MDA isn't completely full yet. We have three open positions. If you're interested in joining, we'd love to have you! The three vacancies are Secretary, Winnipeg Director and Children and Youth Director. The Board of Directors of the Manitoba Deaf Association would like to thank our members and the wider Deaf community for your patience during this transition period.

Since the Annual General Meeting on May 30, 2026, the new Board has been actively working to complete the transition of organizational responsibilities. Due to unforeseen circumstances, this process has taken longer than expected.

At this time, the Board does not yet have full access to important membership information, including contact lists. As a result, we have not been able to communicate with members through our usual email updates or share our planned welcome message.

We understand that this lack of communication may be frustrating or concerning. We want to reassure the community that the Board is actively working to resolve these issues. We are taking appropriate steps to restore access to the information and records needed to operate effectively and responsibly so that we can continue to serve the community with transparency, accountability, and care.

If you are a current or former member of the Manitoba Deaf Association, we ask that you please submit your contact information using the form linked below, so that the Board can rebuild our records and stay in touch with you directly.

Manitoba Theatre Centre has an ASL-interpreted performance coming up on Sunday May 10. Tickets with the best view of the interpreter are discounted to $25 – click here to book! or call box office at 204 942 6537 and ask for the ASL show.

About the show: Rubaboo – A Métis Cabaret is a feast of a production that builds connection and unity while uplifting love and cultural resilience. The London Free Press says "you can't help but leave the theatre with a bounce in your step and a truth in your heart." This collection of songs and storytelling features high-energy, heartfelt lyrics of teachings, memory, and bringing cultures together.
The performance is at 174 Market Ave in the Exchange District (downtown Winnipeg). It is at 2:00 pm on Sunday May 10, and is one hour 40 minutes long. It is suitable for older children (age 11-12 or so), teens, and adults.
