gram guidance provided through a Clinical Steering Committee composed of leaders in rehabilitative programming. The clinically supervised programs are aimed towards enabling clients to exercise their rights to equal and appropriate membership in society in the least restrictive setting as is possible while maintaining personal and community safety. was founded in 1976 by a group of professionals who perceived a need to address the problems of developmentally disabled adults who were in conflict with the criminal justice system. In the fall of 1983 an interim residence was established in a three-bedroom apartment in central Winnipeg, which served as the initial facility and program base until 1985, when Opportunities, Inc. Opportunities For Independence, Inc. has continued to expand and enhance the services available, and now offers a wide range of residential, day programming, skills training and therapeutic programs for this population. Opportunities has developed a variety of residential placement and training options based on supporting the individuals unique needs in risk management and skill level. Support and training is provided in a participant driven model, under the philosophy of providing therapeutic service to individuals in the least restrictive environment as is possible based upon client risk and skill level. As participants move through the treatment and training programming, the support and monitoring model is adapted to reflect client acquisition and risk level.
