The Garvey-Glenn area, named for two local drainage systems, is a gently sloping landscape draining toward Lake Huron. In partnership with 40 landowners, Maitland Conservation supported projects in the area to improve water and soil health. The initiative included over 4 km of grassed waterways, 30 erosion control berms, water and sediment control basins, 10 km of windbreaks and stream buffering along 90% of the area’s 25 km of watercourses. The project’s success has made it a model for collaborative, watershed-based stewardship efforts since 2011.

Part of our Stewardship Team spent the afternoon getting ready for the River Festival this Sunday at Brussels Conservation Area.

We'll be giving away a limited number of spruce and cedar seedlings, along with small packages of native wildflower seed.

The River Festival runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. See you there!
