🐾Surveying a new area needing TNR help Sunday evening, these two adorable kittens were noticed on a neighbour’s front porch. The plan yesterday early evening was to catch an elusive adult male cat known as “crooked tail” and hopefully a few others needing TNR. One of crooked tail’s caregivers had posted a video recently of him dominating a few fixed colony cats in this area. With traps set, we had hoped to catch him and a few other others.
Getting to know some of the cat caregivers, it seems these cats have several! Before no time the kittens were seen actually playing with crooked tail who we believe is possibly the father. Within minutes Mom showed up. We were hoping to get mama cat, who they call Goldie. At the same time, one of the cat caregivers, Naman, offered to care for the kittens and work with them 💕. Within minutes both kittens went into two of our traps. Hoping to catch the Mom next, we put a trap in front of the two kittens in traps, hoping it would lure her to them. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be seen. After waiting with no sign of the mama, we moved the kittens, setting them up at Naman’s in a large covered dog kennel with food/water and litter.
Once the traps were available again, it was going on 11 PM. At this point crooked tail had taken up laying beside one of the traps 🤔. Another community cat had gone into the other trap successfully, but he or she was ear tipped and promptly released. Also by this time, several raccoons and a skunk had moved into the area as it was now dark and the street was quiet. One raccoon literally came out of one of the sewer grates 😳. There is more to do in this area.
Thank you as well to community cat caregiver Denise, who was also trapping to fill appointments for today, and had set two live-traps up in an East Windsor location last night. Unfortunately, Denise did not have any luck this time, but will be trying again! Denise has been very proactive in her area, spaying and neutering the community cats to keep the population under control.
Thank you to our wonderful supporters who support our TNR efforts🙏🙏. It truly takes a village. More to follow..
