In British Columbia, there are 1,040 municipal leadership positions. Only seven are held by First Nations people.
That imbalance has shaped civic decisions for generations. It has also meant that many young Indigenous people never see themselves reflected at the decision-making tables that shape their communities, their lands, and their futures.
The First Nations Leadership and Governance Association (FNLGA) is working to change that.
We are building a non-partisan, Indigenous-led organization dedicated to training, mentoring, and supporting First Nations candidates who want to step into civic leadership. From campaign readiness to governance training, from mentorship circles to culturally grounded support, we are preparing a new generation of leaders for the 2026 municipal elections and beyond.
To do this work well, we need partners who believe in Indigenous representation, reconciliation through action, and the simple truth that our communities are stronger when all voices are present.
If you believe in this vision, Michael Moses, FNLGA ED and I, Thomas Schoen, FNLGA President, invite you to support our work.
Every contribution, small or large, helps us recruit and train leaders who will shape safer, healthier, more equitable communities across British Columbia.
Representation starts with readiness. Readiness starts with us. And with you.
