The Wiarton and District Lions Club has sponsored and maintained memorial park benches locally at Bluewater Park. Bayview Cemetery and Oxenden Cemetery.
On July 23rd, a group of Lion's members and volunteers went to work to clean, and repair these benches as need be. The weather cooperated and our two exchange students help as well.

Cindy Walker was a valued and active member of the Wiarton and District Lions Club. Cindy sadly passed away last year. The Club, her family and friends wanted to honour Cindy with a lasting memorial. Cindy was an avid reader so it seemed natural to honour her with a Book Nook. it is located on the building behind the Dockside Willie building in Bluewater Park and near the train station information booth.
A small ceremony was held at noon on August first to formally open the Book Nook.. The surviving family and friends, the Lions Club and representatives of the Men's Shed were present to dedicate this memorial .
Tom Walker spoke of his mom's passing and reminded us of the importance of reading. Barb Bartley spoke of her friendship with Cindy.
Present were Tom and Medina Walker, Janice Williamson, sister, Dan Blenkinsop, Dennis Goudy, Mike Latimer of the Men's Shed, Melissa Ruth, Frank Ruth, Theresa and Gord Coburn, Ronnie Ottewell,Bill Bartley, Scott Wilson of the Wiarton Lions Club and other family and friends

This was the first year the Wiarton and District Lions Club were able to hold the Crown and Anchor at the Wiarton Homecoming Weekend. As many locals will know, this was a popular staple of the Civic Holiday Weekend Rotary Village Fair for many years.
We raised a modest sum which will be redirected to a local charity.
As this was the first year for us as a Club hosting the Crown and Anchor, we will be looking at ways for improving the experience for all to enjoy in the future. Thanks to the local community for supporting our Crown and Anchor and thanks to the Wiarton Homecoming Committee for its assistance in making this happen eee you next year.

Thank you to everyone who visited our information booth for the Wiarton Lions Club at the Homecoming Weekend! We met lots of wonderful people both Saturday and Sunday, including a few future Wiarton Lions, I'm sure!

Congratulations to Tony Bruin for winning our raffle for the beautiful wood & metallic resin laser-cut artwork! Thank you to Creative on Facebook and at [email protected] for your generous donation and fine work making it!

Many thanks to the Wiarton Homecoming Committee for their assistance in making the event and our participation in it a success.
Our next post will show Anthony the creative partner of Arbello Creative donating the raffle prize and Tony Bruin, the winner of the raffle prize which was our raffle draw at the Information Booth at the Wiarton Homecoming Weekend .

July was a busy month for members of the Wiarton and District Lions Club. Theresa and Gord Coburn, Wiarton Lions members, hosted to exchange students, Ariana and Danielle from The netherlands and Spain respectively during the month of July.
The Coburns kept them active during the month, showing them many highlights of Grey and Bruce and beyond. The weather co-operated for the most part and the young ladies had many memories to take back home.

The Wiarton and District Lions Club is excited to have the Crown and Anchor at the Wiarton Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, August 1 at Bluewater Park in Wiarton.
The Crown and Anchor was a regular feature for many years at the Wiarton Rotary Fair.
A big thank you goes to the Wiarton Homecoming Weekend committee for their ongoing support and enthusiasm for the Crown and Anchor participation.
We will see you there!

Three new members were inducted into the Wiarton and District Lions Club. it was a beautiful afternoon and the ceremony was held in the back yard of Gord & Theresa Coburn.
Congratulations to Charie Elderton and Tanya & Paul Primmer! Also,
Damille and Ariane, two Lions youth exchange students from Spain and the Netherlands , respectively gave a brief talk on their home, their experiences in Canada and about themselves. It was very interesting. This was a great day!
