The Canfor Culture & Events Centre is on schedule for opening in the fall of 2026!

🚧 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧
✔Flooring and interior glass is being installed.
✔Interior masonry work is underway.
✔The remaining exterior siding is being completed.

✨Illusion Dance, Pumpjack Players, the Whitecourt and Woodlands Performing Arts Society and the Whitecourt & District Public Library recently toured the facility, and are excited for the programming they are planning to launch at the Centre this fall!

🚧 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧
✅Concrete floor polishing is underway.
✅Interior walls are being installed, along with interior wood and brick façade.
✅Painting is underway.
✅Theatre control panel installation has started.
✅Installation of hoods in the theatre kitchen is underway.
✅Millwork is underway.

✨The Request for Proposals for the Kitchen and Coffee Shop Lease at the Canfor Culture & Events Centre will be posted the week of February 23 on the Whitecourt website.

The Town of Whitecourt and Canfor are pleased to announce that Whitecourt’s newest event facility will be named the Canfor Culture & Events Centre.

“Located in the heart of downtown Whitecourt, the Canfor Culture & Events Centre will serve our region and offer spaces to host conferences, trade shows, events, concerts, festivals and ceremonies,” said Whitecourt Mayor Ray Hilts. “The new facility will increase service and program opportunities to those living in our community, provide space for people of all ages to gather, stimulate downtown vitalization, and help to grow Whitecourt as a tourist destination.”

“Canfor is a global leader in low-carbon forest products, and through our Good Things Come From Trees Foundation, we’re proud to support the communities where we operate,” said Tom Thompson, Canfor’s General Manager, Alberta Region. “Our contribution to Whitecourt’s new Culture & Events Centre reflects our commitment to the town’s growth and vibrant community, and our appreciation for the strong partnership and support we’ve received in Whitecourt.”

“This is an exciting milestone for the facility, and I’m pleased to be part of the announcement,” added Mayor Hilts. “Canfor has a significant presence in our community, and this investment demonstrates their commitment to our region and projects that strengthen community connection and growth.”

🚧 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE 🚧
- Interior work, including drywall, painting and glazing is underway in the administration area. Wall framing is nearing completion in the library and theatre spaces.
- Tile work and concrete floor finishing will begin next month.
- Light standards have been placed in the parking lot.
- The transition to the building’s heating system from propane heat is scheduled to happen in November.

Whitecourt Mayor Pickard and Deputy Mayor Schlosser met with social media influencer Mai Pham today to tour the Culture & Events Centre site. Mai grew up in Whitecourt, and began her YouTube channel at 13 years old. She’s found incredible success as a content creator on social media – with a YouTube following of over 3.46 million subscribers! She was interested in learning more about the Culture & Events Centre, and is excited for the positive opportunities it will create for local youth.
