So far we have heard MWO Erica Oliver’s story when it comes to the discussions around concussions in service, the effects of repetitive head impacts and the support needed to care for Veterans once they have retired.
Now it’s time to hear from Capt. Alin Mirea, retired combat diver with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Having served a 26-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces, Capt. Mirea understands the need for proper training without injury. This includes injury from TBI.
Operational settings carry an inherent risk of exposure to head impacts, there’s no question about that. What’s important is limiting the possibility of exposure during training exercises, and ensuring that proper recovery protocols are followed if a head impact does take place. By limiting these sources during training, it ensures the brain is ready for the next task.
