The name "Waterdown"
A local story credits Ebenezer Griffin with giving Waterdown its name. A prohibitionist, Griffin did not approve of the vast quantities of alcohol being consumed during the Victorian Age, including the whiskey used to christen new mills. During the christening of one of Griffin's mills the carpenter called out for its name and someone in the crowd called out "Hey Ebenezer, throw that water down." The carpenter heard the name "Waterdown" and it was given to the mill and soon adopted by the emerging village.[8]

HISTORY of the Salvation army in waterdown. We are reaching out to Historians to assist in researching our roots in the community,
We will keep you updated on our findings.
At present we would like to share this information. (Found with the assistance of Shauna Deathe , student archivist for the flamborough archives)
49 and 51 Mill St. N. once formed one building – the Salvation Army Barracks – which was part of the Waterdown community in the late 1800. By 1905, the Barracks was no longer in use. It was Frank Slater who made the building into the two houses seen today. However, it is thought that the Barracks was situated the other way on the lot, in which case both halves must have been moved when the building was halved
