Gail Covert was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the E.J. (Woody) Rice award, established to recognize outstanding contributions made by our volunteers.
For 20 years, Gail worked selflessly to support our mission. As one of the first Chairs of the board of the 7 Hills Community Pantry, she was instrumental in setting us on our path to making a difference for those experiencing food insecurity in our community; a path we follow to this day.
She came back to the Board after a brief retirement and shared her knowledge, compassion and generosity once again. We wish to recognize her many contributions and devotion.
Congratulations, Gail!

Hunger Awareness is something that cannot be ignored…and the need is ever growing. As such, volunteers will be at Sharpe’s for our Cram The Cruiser event where we will accept donations this Saturday, September 20, from 10am to 2pm.
Take a moment to thank our volunteers; together they have contributed over 3000 hours of service during the past year. Please support them with your donations as they help our clients stave off hunger.

Join us on September 13th when author Dan Needles speaks about his book Finding Larkspur!

For 30 years, author and playwright Dan Needles has been bringing to life the stories and characters of his mythical Persephone Township, a fictional rural Canadian community two hours north of the big city.
Nominated three times for the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, Dan won in 2003 for his local history of Persephone Township, With Axe and Flask. He is the author of 12 plays, four books and hundreds of magazine columns. From more than a thousand platforms, Dan has entertained crowds as a banquet and conference speaker, carrying a message of neighbourhood, affection and the power of farmer thinking.

About the book:
"Modern literature has not been kind to village life. For nearly two centuries small towns have been portrayed as insular places that need to be escaped. But suddenly and for the first time on record, growth in Canadian and American small towns is outpacing the growth of large cities, driven in part by the realization that in this digital age, many jobs can be done from anywhere—and that a rural life has much to offer.
Written both for the old-timers who wonder what to make of this sudden influx of city people and the newcomers who seek to understand their strange new surroundings, Finding Larkspur takes a walk through the village of the twenty-first century, observing customs, traditions and institutions that endure. With characteristic wit, Needles reveals that the national character is often very much a product of its small towns and back roads."
