The Provincial Music and Arts Festival is held annually, bringing together festival participants from its member festivals across the Province of Manitoba and from surrounding areas. From its inception in the 1970s, the goal of the Provincial Music & Arts Festival has been to present the opportunity for talented young musicians and speech artists, who have been awarded the chance to represent their local festival, to develop their skills in a competitive, yet supportive environment. Local festivals may send representatives in the areas of Voice, Piano, Strings, Classical Guitar, Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, Chamber Group, Canadian Composers, W.A. Mozart, Musical Theatre, Operetta, TV/Movie Musical, Popular/Contemporary, Poetry, Prose and Public Speaking. Scholarships are awarded in each class.
