Hi BCNU colleagues! As we head into the final full day of voting, I know it’s been a big week with both elections and strike voting happening and a lot coming at members all at once.

I just want to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out, shared support, and taken the time to connect with me throughout this election. It truly means a lot.

Over the past three years serving as your South Islands Regional Council Member, I’ve worked hard to show up, follow through, and advocate for nurses at both the regional and provincial level. From ratio implementation work across Island Health, to governance and member advocacy, I’ve remained committed to ensuring frontline perspectives are heard.

I’ve always believed leadership is about being approachable, accountable, and grounded in the realities nurses are facing every day. There is still important work ahead, and I would be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue representing South Islands nurses for another term.

Grateful for the trust and support of leaders and colleagues who continue to encourage and believe in the leadership I bring to this role.

Voting remains open until tomorrow at noon through BCNU/Simply Voting, with ballots sent to your personal email.

Thank you again for your support 🫶

Why vote for Caitlin Jarvis - If you’re deciding who to vote for, I want to share a bit about what I bring to this role.

I’ve been a nurse for 16 years, and I bring a strong foundation of experience along with a perspective that’s grounded, open to new ideas, and focused on moving this work forward.

I show up for nurses, consistently and honestly, with a strong understanding of what’s happening on the frontlines and the work happening across the province.

Over the past term, I’ve been closely involved in advancing minimum nurse to patient ratios across Island Health, helping move this work from advocacy into implementation. I know how important continuity is, keeping the momentum, working through challenges, and making sure implementation reflects what was intended for frontline nurses.

I’m also committed to holding the employer accountable to the language in our collective agreement, and making sure members understand what’s there and how we can use our collective voice to hold the employer to it.

I want to keep building on this work so it leads to real, positive change for frontline nurses. It’s about retaining the nurses we have, while also supporting the next generation coming into the profession.

I lead with kindness, I’m approachable, and I want members to feel comfortable reaching out or connecting.

This role isn’t just about showing up, it’s about following through. That’s what I’ve done, and what I’ll continue to do.

I’d really appreciate your support to continue this work as one of your Regional Council Members for the South Islands.

I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about how you show up for people.

It’s staying grounded in reality, not getting pulled into assumptions or noise, and focusing on what actually moves things forward. Owning what’s mine and choosing accountability every time.

It’s leading with integrity, being honest, following through, and communicating with respect.

It’s being clear on the why, and making decisions that reflect the people we represent, not just in words, but in action. That’s what I’ve tried to bring to this role, and what I’m committed to continuing.

And most importantly, it’s about people. Listening. Building trust. Creating space for voices to be heard.

Leadership isn’t perfect, but it is intentional. And for me, it’s rooted in accountability, clarity, and showing up to do the work that matters.

With voting opening on May 4, I’d be grateful for your support to continue this work.

💙

It is a privilege to serve as BCNU Co-Chair of the Joint Regional Implementation Committee for Island Health and being a part of the significant work happening behind the scenes to move minimum nurse-to-patient ratios toward reality. With Phase 1 activation underway, the work does not stop here. It continues in holding the employer accountable to the commitments made and ensuring implementation is meaningful for frontline nurses.

I want to see this work continue across all health care settings, including LTC, MHSU, and Community.

Historical knowledge and continuity in this work matter. Implementation of something this significant takes sustained advocacy, relationship-building, and follow-through. I’m deeply committed to seeing it through and holding both the employer and government accountable to their commitment.

Ratios are about safer workplaces, recruitment and retention, and better care. Most importantly, they’re about making real, positive change a reality for nurses on the frontlines and the patients we care for.

The work has started. Now we have to get it right, and I’m committed to continuing to build on that work.
