The Vernon team is already having a busy week getting involved in the community.

As part of an ongoing civic engagement learning series, the team attended a Vernon City Council meeting and observed a vote on a proposed Official Community Plan amendment for a large urban development project.

The team also attended the final Climate Ambassador Program meeting before the summer break, where they had the chance to present and connect with the YCC Kelowna team.

The Climate Ambassador Program, launched by the City of Vernon and the Climate Action Advisory Committee, helps residents have meaningful conversations about climate action with their friends, families, and communities.

Another highlight was the CARE Expo, which brought together more than 500 students and showcased over 150 projects. The team even got to sing some environmental-themed songs with an elementary school class.

JOIN US on June 1st, 7:30 AM as we gather outside City Hall before the SPECIAL Council Meeting, where Council will review the independent financial analysis for the proposed 580 Commonage development. This decision will impact many generations to come, and it’s important for us to show up for it.

This analysis was commissioned after Vernon City Council voted on March 23 to allocate $50,000 toward assessing the full long-term costs of the development to the City of Vernon.

Do you have concerns about this proposed development? Mayor & Council want to hear from you. 📧 Now is a good time to send a message to make sure your concerns are heard. 🗣️

We’ve heard from many folks with a variety of concerns - water 💦, wildlife 🦉, ecosystem 🌼, costs to taxpayers 💰and more.

🌼Interesting letter to the editor in yesterday’s paper. Do you have concerns about this proposed development? Mayor & Council want to hear from you. 📧 Now is a good time to send a message to make sure your concerns are heard. 🗣️

580 Commonage is still on the table. The good news is, our voices matter! Join us at the Vernon Library, 7 PM on May 7 to write letters to City Council, urging them to stick to the OCP and protect the sensitive and vital ecologies of the Commonage.🦉🌱🐈‍⬛✍️
