Loyal Order Of Water Buffalo - Standing Man Quarry #604

Loyal Order Of Water Buffalo - Standing Man Quarry #604 The Loyal Order Of Water Buffalo, Standing Man Quarry #604, based out of British Columbia, Canada They commanded the man to move out of their path.

"Standing Man" is the English name for the rock formation called S'I'lix, also known as Siwash Rock. In the oral traditions of the Coast Salish peoples, the stone formation known as S'I'lix (in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓) or Slhx̱í7lsh (in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) is more than a landmark; it is a "Transformer site" that serves as an enduring monument to moral conduct and family responsibility. The story varies slightly

between the Musqueam and Squamish nations, but both center on the arrival of the Transformers (powerful spirit-beings known as χe:l̕s (in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓) or Xáays (in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh). The Legend of the "Standing Man"
Thousands of years ago, a young leader lived in what is now known as Stanley Park. When his wife was about to give birth to their first child, the man sought to honor a sacred law: to be "spotlessly clean" and spiritually prepared for fatherhood. To purify himself, the man swam back and forth in the cold waters of the Narrows (near today's Lions Gate Bridge). He was so focused on his ritual and his commitment to his unborn child that he would not stop, even when a great canoe approached. Inside the canoe were the Transformers—supernatural brothers traveling the world to set things right. Unlike others who fled in fear, the man refused to move. He explained that he must complete his purification so his child would be born to a father who was spiritually strong and clean. The Transformers were deeply impressed by his unselfishness and his devotion to his family. Instead of punishing him for blocking their path, they granted him a form of immortality. They transformed him into the towering stone stack we see today, so he could stand forever as a reminder of "Clean Fatherhood" and the importance of putting the next generation first. The Devilfish (Octopus)
The Musqueam people share an additional layer to this geography. According to their teachings:

The Transformers once fought and killed a giant octopus (devilfish) at Musqueam. The Transformers flung a piece of the creature across the peninsula; the smallest te****le landed at the foot of S'I'lix. This explains why, to this day, that specific area of the coastline is known for having many small octopuses among the rocks. This story is a sacred oral history of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) peoples. 🦬 WERE HANNA & BARBERA FREEMASONS? 🤔

This is one of those questions that pops up from time to time in Masonic circles.

The short answer?

As far as we can find… no.

There are no credible Masonic records, lodge minutes, Grand Lodge references, biographies, or documented evidence showing that William Hanna or Joseph Barbera were Freemasons. (Wikipedia)

But here’s where it gets interesting…

Many people assume they must have been Masons because their cartoons were filled with things that felt very familiar to fraternal life:

🦬 The Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes

🎩 Secret handshakes

🏛 Lodge meetings

😂 Funny titles like “Grand Poobah”

🍻 Fellowship, friendship, and brotherhood

The Water Buffalo Lodge was actually a playful parody of the kinds of fraternal organizations that were everywhere in North America at the time—Masons, Shriners, Moose Lodges, Elks, and similar social clubs. (Stichting Argus)

And honestly?

They captured something real.

Not the ritual.

Not the obligations.

Not the secrets.

The spirit.

The laughter after meetings.

The friendships that last decades.

The ridiculous hats.

The running jokes.

The feeling of belonging somewhere.

William Hanna was also known for lifelong involvement in Scouting, mentorship, community service, and helping build entertainment that brought families together. (Wikipedia)

Those aren’t uniquely Masonic virtues…

But they are certainly virtues many Masons recognize and respect.

And here’s the funny twist of history:

The Flintstones created the fictional Water Buffalo Lodge…

Then years later Masons around the world started creating humorous and unofficial “Water Buffalo Degrees” and Water Buffalo clubs for fellowship and laughs.

So first, art imitated life.

Then life imitated art. 😂🦬

Maybe that’s why the Water Buffaloes still make so many Brothers smile.

Not because it was Masonry…

But because it reminded people of the best parts of brotherhood.

Yabba-Dabba-Doo, Brother. 🏛🦬🍻
