“What’s amazing about literature is how essentially human it is,” says novelist Chantel Acevedo who sees readers and writers as sustaining “the human in us.” Her latest novel, Cages, reflects this human quality. Spanning three decades, the novel is a collage of five voices piecing together the life of Felix – a zookeeper in Cuba during the missile crisis who makes his way to London and eventually Miami.
