A project rooted in memory, built with love, and driven by the stories that power our city’s soul.
My name is Devon J Hall, and I’m the founder of this initiative. For years, I worked with vulnerable communities across Surrey and Vancouver, creating programs for those often left behind — youth, women, men, and folks living on the margins. And then, like too many others, I found myself there too.
Remember Me, Vancouver was born out of that lived experience — from the understanding that it is far too easy to disappear in this city if you don’t have power, money, or protection. But we deserve to be remembered. We deserve to be heard.
This project is about gathering and preserving the real stories of the Downtown Eastside — in all their complexity, beauty, pain, and strength. It’s for the unhoused, the q***r and trans folks, the survivors, the artists, the elders, the neighbours, the ones who stayed and the ones who were pushed out.
Through video, written word, and voice recordings, we’ll create a digital archive that protects stories from being lost — and makes space for community healing.
Our goals:
Ethically collect 100+ lived experience stories from the DTES
Compensate every participant with dignity
Build a trauma-informed digital archive accessible to the public
Create safer spaces for truth-telling and memory-sharing
This isn’t about charity. It’s about justice. About love. And about making sure no one is forgotten.
Thanks for being here. We’re just getting started — and we’re so glad you’re with us.
