⏳ Only 43 spots are left in our Sea Smart Summer Camps (and that number goes down every day!).

While our Ocean Creatures, Animal Detectives, and Forest Guardians camps are now FULL, we still have openings in some incredible programs:

Running throughout July & August at locations across the Vancouver area, including Kits Beach and Trout Lake, these camps are designed for curious kids ages 6–10 who love the outdoors and care about wildlife and wild lands.

Registration is now open for our Sea Smart Summer Camps 2026 programs ☀️🐚

This July and August, youth ages 6–10 in the Greater Vancouver area can explore marine and wildlife education through hands-on, outdoor learning experiences designed to build curiosity, confidence, and connection to the natural world.

📍 Locations: Kitsilano Beach + John Hendry Park (Trout Lake)
🌿 Outdoor, place-based learning and conservation-focused activities

While summer may feel far away, spaces fill quickly and early registration is encouraged.

Thanks to the support of our generous funders, a number of spots are available through scholarships. We’re committed to keeping environmental education accessible and reducing barriers for families wherever we can.

The Starfish Canada Sea Smart Summer Camps 2026 are on the horizon 🌊🌲

We’ve opened our waitlist through February 3 for our outdoor, place-based summer camps for youth ages 6–10, based near what we colonially call Vancouver.

These programs invite young people to learn through direct experience with coastal and freshwater ecosystems, building early connections to ocean stewardship, biodiversity, and care for the lands and waters around them.

📍 Program locations include:
• Kitsilano Beach
• John Hendry Park (Trout Lake)

Camp activities range from ocean cleanups and water sampling to plant and insect identification and creative projects focused on endangered species. Each week is designed to spark curiosity, confidence, and a sense of responsibility toward local ecosystems.

💙 Scholarships are available, with several spots supported by generous donors to help increase accessibility for families in the Vancouver area.

Starting September 1, 2025, our team will become part of , a national, youth-led environmental charity. This exciting step allows us to amplify our mission and expand our impact across Canada, all while continuing to offer the programs you know and love, including our summer camps.

What stays the same?
✔︎ Sea Smart’s mission, values, name, brand, and programs remain intact.
✔︎ We’ll keep delivering ocean education and youth empowerment as usual.

What changes?
✔︎ Our staff will become part of team starting September 1.
✔︎ Increased capacity, resources, and reach across Canada in both English and French.
✔︎ Our founder, Dr. Elaine Leung, will step down as Executive Director but remain an advisor to ensure a smooth transition and keep Sea Smart’s legacy strong.

A Heartfelt Thank You and Goodbye to Our Founder, Dr. Elaine Leung 💙

After nearly a decade of passionate leadership, we’re bidding a warm farewell to Sea Smart’s founder, Dr. Elaine Leung, as she steps away from her role as Executive Director on August 31st to continue making waves around the globe as a marine biologist focused on conservation research.

What began in 2016 as a bold vision to empower youth to love and protect our ocean has become an internationally recognized not-for-profit that has reached over 43,000 students in person and over 1 million youth globally.

Her legacy lives on, as Sea Smart merges with our work continues, expanding Elaine’s mission to support youth, especially Indigenous and at-risk youth, across the country through solutions-focused environmental education.

We are endlessly grateful for Elaine’s vision, leadership, and heart. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of ocean heroes.
