🚨 PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A PAID RESEARCH STUDY 🚨

Have you used Uber or Lyft in Canada? Researchers at York University are looking to hear from Black individuals who are blind or partially sighted about their experiences using ride-sharing services.

Your insights will help researchers better understand transportation accessibility and inclusion for Black communities.

You may be eligible if you:
✔️ Identify as Black
✔️ Are blind or partially sighted
✔️ Are 18 years of age or older
✔️ Live in Canada
✔️ Have used Uber or Lyft

What’s involved?
🗣️ A 60-minute Zoom interview to discuss your experiences.
🎁 Participants will receive a $50 gift card as a token of appreciation.

REST IN POWER, NOLAN XAVIER WELLS 🕊️

Nolan’s case has sparked fear because of Mississippi’s long history of racial injustice. That history does not prove what happened to Nolan, but it does explain why unanswered questions and delayed transparency deserve scrutiny. His family deserves a full, independent and accountable investigation.

We also remember 18-year-old Joseph Maku, who went missing in Delta, BC, in 2024 and was later found deceased. These cases are not the same, and there has been no public finding that either death was racially motivated. But both remind us how quickly Black families can be left searching for answers.

We must also focus on prevention—without blaming Nolan, Joseph or their families.

Parents and caregivers: know who your children are with, verify plans, create check-in routines, keep emergency information updated, and remind your children they can always call home without fear.

If a child goes missing in Canada, report it to police immediately. There is no waiting period.

BC Community Alliance is here to support Black families with advocacy, documentation support, and connections to legal, mental-health and family resources.

Today’s SSLP 2026 Foundation Tier session explores a critical topic for future leaders and entrepreneurs: Anti-Racism in Business.

Led by Dr. Marvin Washington, Dean of the SFU Beedie School of Business, participants will examine how businesses can embed equity into their mission, hiring practices, marketing strategies, and partnerships while creating meaningful impact.

Through conversations like these, SSLP continues to equip young leaders with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to build stronger businesses and communities.
