Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society Rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing sick and injured marine mammals. Help us give these animals a second chance at life.

This is the official page for the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR). We are a global leader in marine mammal rescue, research, and rehabilitation. Our mission is clear: to rescue, rehabilitate, and release marine mammals in distress.

September Volunteer Spotlight, meet Carina!

We’re so grateful to have volunteers like Carina on our team. From helping with day-to-day operations to playing a very large role in Luna’s rescue 🦦, Carina makes a huge difference in the work we do.

Thank you, Carina, for your time, dedication, and all that you do to support marine mammal rescue! 🩵

Up close and personal with Nootka! 🦭

Did you know? Harbour seals have incredibly sensitive vibrissae (whiskers) that help them find fish even in low light or poor visibility. Their whiskers can detect tiny vibrations and movements in the water as prey swims by, even when they can’t see it! 🐟✨

They may not have a concept of time, but they sure know when it’s 3 minutes past lunch time…

Find us at Port Day today at Canada Place until 4pm! 🇨🇦

Our Outreach team will be on site with interactive displays and information about how we respond when marine mammals need help along the B.C. coast!

Thank you to the Port of Vancouver | Port de Vancouver for its generous in-kind support and valued partnership, including opportunities like Port Day to connect with the community.

Nian was a little unsure about her move to a pool at first, but after a few days, she’s eating fish just as quickly as her pool mates! 🐟🦭

Meet Bic, our 48th rescued harbour seal pup of 2026! 🦭

Bic was rescued after being seen alone in Tribune Bay for multiple days. Once it became clear that he had been separated from his mother, our team made the decision to rescue him and bring him to our centre for rehabilitation.

He’s now eating fish all on his own and has joined three other seal pups in a pool! 💙
