TMX hasn’t been operating at full capacity due to price differentials. Forecast over the next 3 years have reduced the quantity of oil to flow through the system since some companies are unwilling to pay higher tolls, charged due to the project’s costs ballooning higher than expected.
However in March, the pipeline moved 790,000 barrels of oil per day, and TMX CEO Mark Maki said it will run close to capacity around 2027 or 2028. Full capacity is 890,000 barrels per day. Pre-TMX capacity was about 300,000 bpd.
About half of this crude oil goes to the US, the other half is now being sent to Asia, much of it to China along with Korea, Japan, India and Brunei.
Now TMC looking to sell the project, but not before they can improve their image and up the price.
