The nominees are in for the 2026 CMPA ! This year, we're celebrating Canada's best in feature film, emerging talent, and television. There's never been a better time to celebrate homegrown stories and the talented Canadian producers behind them!

The 2026 nominees are…

🎬 Feature Film Producer Indiescreen Award, presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada
Nominees include Alfons Adetuyi (Dreams of the Moon), Daniel Bekerman (Permanent Damage), Marie Clements, Christine Haebler, and Trish Dolman (How We Stand), Karen Harnisch (Home Bodies), and Tyler Hagan (Seventeen).

📺 TV Producer Indiescreen Award, presented in partnership with Canada Media Fund
Nominees include Accent Aigu Entertainment (Heated Rivalry), Blink49 Studios (YAGA), KOTV (Plan B), Lark Productions (Allegiance), and New Metric Media (Hate the Player: The Ben Johnson Story).

🌟 Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Indiescreen Award
Nominees include Anthony Cauchy (Surf Bay, côte Ouest), Jordan Hayes (I Come Home), Julian Geneen (Crash Land), Natalie Remplakowski (Seahorse), and Scott Anthony Cavalheiro and Claire Cavalheiro (Plan C).

Congratulations to the CMPA's COO Liz Shorten, who was named to Business in Vancouver's BC500, which spotlights the leaders behind the province’s biggest ventures, deals and decisions. The CMPA was in Annecy this week alongside and for one of animation’s biggest global markets . Canadian producers connected with international buyers and partners, explored co-production opportunities and brought Canadian animation to a worldwide stage. 🎬🍁

Feature Film Producer Indiescreen Award - $20,000 (in partnership with )

TV Producer Indiescreen Award - $20,000 + up to 5 passes to Prime Time 2027 (in partnership with .fmc)

Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Indiescreen Award - $10,000 (open to feature film, series, and short form series producers)

As we wrap up our celebration of 30 years of CMPA's mentorship program, we talked to Jigar Thakkar, who did his mentorship with Accent Aigu Entertainment.

During his time with Accent Aigu, Jigar gained insight into the Canadian media industry and into what it takes to keep pushing with creative and production ambition at all levels. After his placement, he stayed on as Associate Producer on the unexpected smash hit, Heated Rivalry.

Applications for our 2026-27 mentorship programs are now closed. We look forward to another year of supporting a new cohort of up-and-coming independent producers! 🎬

Applications are open for the CMPA's Durban FilmMart delegation! 🇿🇦🇨🇦

If you're a CMPA member looking to build connections in the African market, this one's for you. We're bringing a delegation of up to five producers to Durban, South Africa (Oct. 9-12) to connect with local and international producers, pitch projects, and explore co-production, financing, and sales opportunities.

We're excited about collaborating with the Trade Commissioner Service in South Africa, IMPACT and CaribbeanTales Media on this year’s Canadian presence at the market.
