As we wrap up our celebration of 30 years of CMPA's mentorship program, we talked to Jigar Thakkar, who did his mentorship with Accent Aigu Entertainment.

During his time with Accent Aigu, Jigar gained insight into the Canadian media industry and into what it takes to keep pushing with creative and production ambition at all levels. After his placement, he stayed on as Associate Producer on the unexpected smash hit, Heated Rivalry.

Applications for our 2026-27 mentorship programs are now closed. We look forward to another year of supporting a new cohort of up-and-coming independent producers! 🎬

The CMPA has partnered with legendary producer Don Carmody to launch the CMPA Don Carmody International Co-Production Mentorship Program!

Supported by a generous $100,000 commitment from Don Carmody, this initiative honours his incredible five-decade legacy of bridging Hollywood and Canada to bring over $2B USD in production north of the border. We’re thrilled to partner with Don Carmody as he invests in the next generation of Canadian producers!

Because global partnerships are more important than ever to getting projects financed and seen around the world, this program will help fund one producer annually for a 20-week paid international co-production placement, giving emerging talent the hands-on experience they need to thrive in the global marketplace. 🌍

Applications are now open for CMPA member companies to apply with an emerging producer. The deadline to apply is July 10, 2026. Learn more about our mentorship programs and eligibility at cmpa.ca/mentorship

Congratulations to Toronto for winning at the Global Production Awards in Cannes, taking home Film Commission of the Year AND City of Film! After BC took home a big win last year, we're glad to keep that trophy exactly where it belongs, in Canadian hands. 🏆🍁

From Iceman 🧊 to the Global Production Awards in Cannes, it's great to see the 6ix dominate the global stage for two weeks, back-to-back.

Advocate for yourself!
That's the lesson Stephanie Duckett carries from the CMPA's mentorship program. The program helped Stephanie define her goals and start seeing herself as a producer in her own right. Working in film in Alberta, she knows how much mentorships matter for growing and sustaining talent in the industry.
Her advice to new mentees? Ask lots of questions, explore different areas of the job, and challenge yourself. The experience you get is the experience you seek out.

Now in our 31st year, applications are open for the CMPA's 2026–2027 mentorship programs. Check out the programs and apply by June 12!
