The Kalāvāṇī Dhrupad Choir, comprised of students of faculty member Akhil Jobanputra, recently made its debut as a guest ensemble at "With Glowing Hearts: A Concert by Soundscape". This project explores the possibilities of presenting dhrupad music and composition in a choral setting while maintaining the core principles and nuances that give the tradition its distinctive beauty.

The composition, by Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, has been arranged by Akhil Jobanputra. Centred around the celebration of Holi, the piece depicts the beloved deity Krishna playfully throwing colours with the people of Braja. The scene unfolds with vibrant colours painting all four directions, evoking the spirit of spring as a symbol of renewal, auspiciousness, and the blossoming of divinity within all beings and things.

The Kalāvāṇī Institute provides an interdisciplinary approach to Indian traditional performing arts pedagogy for contemporary students. Founded in 2020 by Akhil Jobanputra, the institute seeks to nurture and sustain a healthy ecosystem of traditional Indian performing arts by providing accessible and high-quality courses, workshops, and apprenticeships on practice and theory. The Kalāvāṇī Institute serves as the education branch of the ICMSV - Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver.
