Navroz Mubarak to all those celebrating across BC!
Navroz (Nowruz), the Persian New Year, marks the arrival of spring and renewal. From sabzeh placed on the Haft sin table, to traditional dishes like samanoo, wheat plays a meaningful role in the celebrations, symbolising growth and new beginnings.
For those in the celiac community, these traditions can feel a bit more complex, but there are still many ways to safely take part.
Try growing a gluten-free sabzeh using lentils, mung beans, or chickpeas. And while traditional samanoo is made from wheat, you can explore gluten-free alternatives like sweet puddings made from rice flour or dates.
Many classic dishes can also be adapted, like making ash reshteh with gluten-free rice noodles or extra legumes, preparing kuku sabzi as a naturally gluten-free option, or serving sabzi polo with rice as a safe and traditional staple.
With a little creativity, the spirit of Navroz (renewal, connection, and joy) can be fully embraced by everyone at the table. 💚
