Handydart Riders' Alliance

Handydart Riders' Alliance HandyDART riders and allies for better HandyDART and accessible transit service. It is time to get organized!

The HandyDART Riders’ Alliance is a new group of HandyDART riders and allies working for better HandyDART and accessible transit service. The provincial government has reneged on their promise to fund transit improvements including HandyDART, and trip denials have gone up over 600% as a result. Service quality has also deteriorated, with riders routinely forced to wait for hours. Everyone benefits

from better transit, including our growing population of older seniors and people with disabilities. It is time to make major investments in transit including HandyDART, to make Metro Vancouver a livable and age friendly region.

We at the HRA wish you all a safe and healthy THANKSGIVING!

Check out this great article about the Save Our HandyDART campaign:

“Beth McKellar is co-founder of the HandyDart Riders’ Alliance and has used HandyDart to get around for 25 years. She’s also frustrated by the board’s decision.

“They’re spending all this money on highly paid consultants when they could be having all this free consultation with their drivers and clients. But they don’t listen to us,” she said. “It’s so discouraging and upsetting.”

McKellar is also frustrated with Transdev’s reliance on taxi drivers to fill in service gaps.

HandyDart drivers are trained to offer door-to-door service, while taxi drivers expect you to load your own walker in the trunk, she said. “If I could do that I wouldn’t need HandyDart,” she added.

Greetings Everyone! I don't know about you but I for one am ready to say GOODBYE to 2024! It has been one rough and tough year! However, a lot of good things happened. The powers that be are FINALLY LISTENING! They are being a slow as molasses in February on the Prairies to implement, but they are listening. With that being said, the HRA want to wish everyone, Clients, Drivers, Folks at the Call Center and everyone in between a Healthy, Happy 2025!
