From Gardens to Growth

What began as a response to food insecurity during the pandemic grew into one of Rotary’s most impactful international collaborations.

Through the efforts of 154 Rotary clubs across 28 districts, the 1,000 Survival Garden Kits Project raised over $300,000, delivering 1,281 water rollers and garden kits to 34 Southern African communities — empowering more than 10,000 people. This success stands as a powerful testament to Rotary’s reach, compassion, and ability to mobilize at scale.

Now, that same energy and momentum are shifting toward scaling water access through the new Eco Water Roller — a South African–designed and manufactured innovation built to extend Rotary’s proven impact even further. The Eco Water Roller Scaling Project builds on the success of the Survival Garden Kits initiative, expanding Rotary’s reach across Southern Africa and empowering even more families through access to water.

Thank you to the Dresden Rotary Club for their generous donation! Wonderful that Denise and Bruce took the time to present the cheque in person. 🙏

We had two visitors today, members of Dresden Ontario Rotary Club who were visiting a friend in Gibsons this week.

Denise Melanson and Bruce Hart let us know that their club had a community BBQ last month and raised $600 to donate to the Rolling Water Foundation the new name for the Roll-A-Hippo Foundation a project started years ago by our club and which continues to managed by former members Luke Vorstermans and Linda Ryan.

Denise and Bruce presented the cheque to our president David Taylor at a Gibsons landmark, Molly's Reach.

On September 1, the Roll a Hippo Foundation will become the Rolling Water Foundation.

We’re changing our name to better reflect what we do. It’s the same mission, same team, and the same focus—getting water rollers into the hands of vulnerable women and children in Southern Africa.

The RC Sunshine Coast and RC Gibsons invite YOU and your Club to be part of Rolling Hippos for Water, a virtual walk raising awareness and funds for the Hippo Water Roller—an innovative tool that makes collecting water safer, faster, and easier.

How It Works
1,000 KM Goal: Symbolically from Vancouver, BC to the Rotary International Convention in Calgary, AB.
Sponsor a Kilometer: $100 per km – donate as an individual, club, or group.
March 22 – June 25, 2025: Kicked off on World Water Day and concludes at the Rotary International Convention in Calgary.
