We envision a thriving, equitable, and intergenerational Chinatown.

Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice 世代同行會 supports youth and low-income immigrant seniors in Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside. We build power in our community through intergenerational relationship building, and by helping seniors overcome language and cultural barriers to services that meet their basic needs. We combine service provision and grassroots organizing, with a core belief t

hat service work is political and that as a community, we have the tools we need to take care of one another. We empower seniors and youth to work together to improve their communities and tackle the difficult problems of oppression and violence. Our vision is of a Chinatown that is intergenerational and thriving, with accessible and culturally relevant services and an environment that cherishes our seniors and youth.

Yarrow recognizes and values the diversity of everyone in our community. As an organization we are committed to welcoming and affirming the human rights of all people, including people of colour, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ people, s*x workers, and people with disabilities.

Thanks Jill and for hosting two workshops with Chinese seniors about local Indigenous plant medicine and salve making! Each senior got to take home two salves after learning how to make their own in a standard, electric rice cooker.

This Giving Tuesday, consider sustaining Yarrow Society’s work in the community as a grassroots donor. We offer food, casework, recreational, educational, and cultural programming free of charge to low income, Chinese-speaking seniors in Chinatown, Strathcona, and the Downtown Eastside, relying on grant funding and individual donors to support associated costs.

This past year:
🏡 We began our residency at the Maclean Park fieldhouse in partnership with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, collaborating on community events and programming with groups like WePress, Vancouver Trans March, SAGAH, Maclean Park Music, and V6A Gardens.
🍛We delivered 1,295 hot meals with Ovaltine Cafe and SUCCESS
🏥We continued our medical advocacy workshop series to assist, advocate for, and empower seniors to navigate the healthcare system.
📲We continued our weekly tech literacy programming to teach seniors cell phone skills.

All contributions of $20 CAD and over qualify for charitable tax receipts as of April 1st, 2025. We are still in the process of reaching out to and generating receipts for eligible donors - please direct any queries to .

Our SECOND Chinese North American food tasting workshop focusing on beef and broccoli was such a wonderful and engaging afternoon of conversation and food!🥦🥩

We talked about the history of the dish, different paths of migration, and the collaboration between Chinese and Italian migrants in Vancouver!

We ended the day with a visit to Tosi’s Italian Food Importers, one of the oldest family owned businesses in Chinatown! We got lots of cool cooking tips and advice from the one and only Angelo Tosi!🫒🧀

There will be a community food literacy workshop tomorrow afternoon from 5 to 6 PM at Maclean Park, outside the fieldhouse. The workshop will be about food safety and how to properly store food. Refreshments and snacks will be available.

We had wonderful discussion about food as a vessel for resilience, identity, and adaptation in addition to the history of North American style Chinese food! Maybe we’ll do more food tasting workshops is folks are interested. Let us know!👀👀
