We're excited to welcome Nefertiti Matos Olivares, an award-winning blind, bilingual Audio Description narrator, accessibility strategist, and quality leader, for an engaging conversation on Preparing Blind Quality Controllers and Excellence in Audio Description.

As Workflow Manager for Quality and Inclusion at and a core member of the Social Audio Description Collective, Nefertiti has helped shape blind-centered quality control practices that strengthen Audio Description and expand opportunities for blind and low vision professionals.

Hosted by Amy Amantea, this month's Describer Cafe will explore disability-led collaboration, quality assurance, and why blind perspectives are essential throughout the Audio Description process.

🌈 Experience the 2026 Vancouver Pride Parade with VocalEye!

Blind and low vision community members (and their guests) are invited to join the VocalEye Accessible Viewing Zone for live audio description of the parade experience.

Sunday, August 2 from 1 pm to 3:30 pm

📍 The VocalEye Accessible Viewing Zone tent will be located at the southeast corner of Davie St and Pacific Blvd (outside RBC).

Please arrive by noon (or earlier) to get settled. The Pride Info Tent opens at 11 am in front of the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre.

🎭 A big thank you to VocalEye Describer Eileen Barrett!

It's been a busy summer for Eileen, and we're so grateful for the care, creativity, and expertise she brings to our community.

Last week, Eileen joined us on Almost Live, sharing readings from poet William Wordsworth alongside rich audio description that painted a vivid picture of Dove Cottage, its surroundings, and the creative spirit that flourished there.

This Sunday, Eileen returned to the describer's seat for Bard on the Beach’s bold new production of Macbeth. And she's not slowing down! Eileen will also be one of our talented describers at the Vancouver Pride Parade before returning to Bard in August to describe Goblins: Oedipus.
